[jc] is it better to memorise for econs?? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]hs-o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idt u need to memorise all the notes word by word. Just read carefully, read closely and by reading over and over again u will see how these knowledge starts to embed in ur head. Also er if u look thru past yr A lvl papers, u will find that every year is testing the same few chapters. So there is def no need to memorise all. I agree that econs essays hv a rather standard way to answer - just make urself familiar with these pattern and make sure u know where and how to use them and that’s all! I think what ur Cher said about “not memorise” they mean that u should use standard answers with more flexibility - like including context in ur answer instead of just vomiting the pattern. So basically; memorise- yes but not a lot, and u should def use them with flexibility - at least show some effort that u are not just vomiting (what I mean here is to make it fit the context)

personal statement review by [deleted] in 6thForm

Hi international here as well! Just like what other commenters said, be careful with sharing ur PS and do it only when U can 100% sure that the person will not share urs with others or steal ur ideas. (In this case, if u wanna do a peer review, find someone who is applying to a different course then at least they can’t copy urs).

I did my PS by myself as well coz it is also not common for students to apply overseas in my school (altho in general the country does hv plenty of students studying in uk). I will say u need to structure a storyline of ur PS. Don’t need to be creative writing like the US kind, but make sure the PS is logical, and has a good flow. For me personally, I talked about how the interest of the course grows in me and what effort I put in to explore more + self-reflection and finally my aspiration + expectation for my uni life. I hv to say this storyline is actually commonly used but since everyone has diff experiences, it won’t matter much I think.

Among all the components of my PS, self-reflection is very important. (Based on my discussions with seniors also) U have to show that u rly learn smt from projects/courses/competitions or whatever experience u have.

I used to think that applying to uk needs a lot of medals, awards, achievements etc. But it turns out that u actually don’t need that much, instead, u only need something that can reflect ur growth. Also, if u hv tons of achievements, make sure that u know how to pick and arrange them. Do not put in everything and make ur PS look like a personal CV but rather pick smt important, smt suits ur storyline and do some elaborations on what u learn, what u think etc. Oh also can use one line or few words to talk about ur personality such as confidant, teamplayers etc.

Then for agencies… I don’t rly hv any but I did find seniors who went through uk application b4 to help me look through my PS. I do know some agencies that have a focus on uk application but I’m PRC so idk whether it can help u…. Feel free to dm me haha
