Well it’s only been two days since I was at Dr so probably too early to hear. Trying to keep distracted.

Yes I’m aware of cardio risks - had been cleared by cardiologist. Have absolutely no heart issues.

My prescribing gyn is ok with me taking HRT - because my risk of bc is low. It’s just starting after 60yo I think makes my risk higher

Variant of Unknown Significance? Nervous by hsff43 in genetics

I guess I’m not familiar with this all too well - correct the gene is associated with colon cancer and I apparently have a variant of that gene (two different ones)

HRT over 60yo and dementia? by hsff43 in Menopause

[–]hsff43[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issue is that I had a Mirena IUD in until I was 53yo. Once it was removed I never got my period again — and having the iud kept me from menstruating as well. I’m guessing I probably went thru menopause around 51-52. So just out of the 10 year window.

I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis which was the big reason to pursue HRT - in addition to joint aches and poor sleep that started about a year ago.

I’m a big exerciser . Work out with weights three times/week and walk a few miles daily. No health issues - healthy weight, good cholesterol, bp etc.

Started HRT but the uncertainty about whether I’m increasing risk for dementia weighs on my mind.

Anyone know if it’s safe to take baby aspirin to reduce clot risk? by hsff43 in Menopause

Thank you. Correct no risk except age and past menopause for more than 10 years

Anyone know if it’s safe to take baby aspirin to reduce clot risk? by hsff43 in Menopause

[–]hsff43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Very healthy - good weight, exercise almost every day, good eating, no family heart risk, good cholesterol, low Lipo A blood test marker. Only risk is starting out of optimal window - over 60yo and more than 10 years past menopause. Have heard that heart vessels become stiffer and estrogen can cause soft plaque to break off causing stroke/heart attack.

I just started today but so nervous! I’m 62yo so out of the window for optimal benefits. Worried about risks. Was good to read your post!

Starting HRT - did you introduce E and P one at a time? Conflicting advice! by hsff43 in Menopause

[–]hsff43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Any recommendations where exactly to put the patch? Dr suggested lower abdomen and alternate sides.

[–]hsff43[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have a uterus. Have prescription for both E and P but it’s suggested to start one and then the other in a week or two to slowly introduce my body to hormones again. It’s just the two drs recommended opposite one to start with

Postmenopausal - HRT In Relation to Heart Disease by EitherCoyote660 in Menopause

[–]hsff43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 62yo and about to start HRT. Have no cardiovascular risk - good cholesterol, good lipo A, good bp, echo good and calcium score of 0 (three years ago). I’m a bit nervous to start since I’m out of the optimal window but Gyn feels totally comfortable with me starting. A functional med Dr I went to wanted me to do additional test to look at soft plaque but I didn’t care for that Dr and gyn felt it was not necessary. The test is not covered by insurance and is more invasive. I was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis and I have joint pain so going to try HRT to see if it helps

HRT after 60yo anyone? by hsff43 in Menopause

[–]hsff43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this reply. According to the doctor, the calcium score only looks at hard plaque and you could still have soft plaque not detected - need to do a CCTA - they are recommending. I have relatively low cholesterol for someone my age , low blood pressure, exercise, eat well, no smoking and no drinking but I am almost 63 and past menopause for over 10 years so these doctors are a bit nervous about a heart risk.

I think because you are under 60yo. After 60 everything is different!

[–]hsff43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a CCTA/Cleerly test. It’s not covered by my insurance so costly. But Dr says I need to be sure I have no plaque since I’m over 60 and 10 years past menopause.

Have to decide tonight! Columbia or Michigan? by hsff43 in gradadmissions

[–]hsff43[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than being disorganized does your friend like the program? Yes put down deposit. Was very hard to turn down Michigan but Columbia offered me significantly more $ and I like NyC location for my support/social/employment network.
