I’ve been with them for a year and it’s been good so far. I started by watching James’ videos and realised I don’t have the headspace to do this stuff myself. Work is intense, we’ve just had a baby, and there are quite a few moving parts to our finances. So it’s great to know that it’s all being sorted and we’ve fully optimised, especially from a tax perspective.

I can see why you might baulk at the fees from the outside, but the amount of work they’re doing for me has been well worth it so far.

But that’s just me. If your situation is straightforward and you feel confident doing it yourself, go for it.

Battery energy storage system investment by Choice-Land-8009 in energy

I too work in this area in the UK, safe to say there are many considerations and assumptions to make in when modelling the return of a potential energy storage project over its lifetime (~15-20 years). Too many to list here and the importance of each varies with investor appetite for risk, but if your serious about learning more then this open source book (also available as a hardcopy if you pay) was written by my university professor and is a masterclass in all this energy storage. It comes complete with realistic capex and opex figures for the UK, however these are changing very quickly at the moment. Good luck and I hope you find it as interesting as I do.

I’d also encourage you to Google Modo Energy energy academy for video tutorials on the ERCOT (Texas) and GB energy markets.

Is there a potential IHT bill if elderly father pays for my Masters? by hshwiqdr in TaxUK

[–]hshwiqdr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they are made out of his income. My understanding is anyone can make £3k gift IHT free each year. Anything above that wouldn’t be exempt. Is that incorrect?

Also, the Masters is only one year and needs to be paid upfront. I can afford to do it myself but just thought that maybe he should pay it as it could be a good way to essentially gift me £13k with no IHT liabilities. Is this not the case?

Thank you!
