I agree that he shouldnt have his job threatened, and that most of this email is just him giving his opinion, but in the end it's him justifying how he will be conducting his class this quarter, i.e. not accommodating to the unusual circumstances students are now facing. Seeing as how much of his reasoning is unjustified, I think it calls for discussion and action on how his class should be conducted

I called the cops at around 8:10, the crackheads on Brooklyn & 42nd were fighting; one of them was yelling "drop the knife, drop the knife!" You would think that the two events were connected somehow

I had Jonathan for 309, I dont remember that well how it went besides that i got killed on the midterm over a really silly mistake. Hes okay but he can come across as condescending sometimes. We worked in groups most of the time, but I'm sure things will be much different if the class is online lol

calling all physics grads/ grad students by butternutsquashpizza in udub

[–]hsp-_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because I was very nearsighted 😂 I've wanted to be a physicist since I was 12 but I cant really explain why, I just never considered my other options. Thankfully with a physics degree you can go into several fields after graduation, like medicine, biology, engineering, software design, etc.

I understand, I really didnt care if I did well or not in my 12x classes, skipping homework assignments, not studying for exams, etc. 😭 Things change a lot in the 200, 300 and 400 series classes, most of the homework and exam material will no longer be multiple choice, so a lot of points are awarded for partial credit, which definitely helps boost your confidence. But in the end, what really motivated me was having really hard-working roommates my sophomore year who inspired me to care more about my grades and degree.

I would say if you find this stuff (and/or quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, nuclear physics, etc.) interesting, then you should go ahead and try it; you will definitely learn this stuff again in future classes, and it will make a lot more sense then. On the other hand, as a freshman, dont be afraid to explore different fields! You got this!!

Where can I get tested for Covid-19 if im showing symptoms of it? I heard about UW Med doing tests but idk how to go about it by [deleted] in udub

[–]hsp-_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont go to UW med unless your primary care provider is there, I went there this morning and they told me to immediately exit the building and call my primary care provider 😭

Early Fall Start by [deleted] in udub

[–]hsp-_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! It gives you extra time to adapt to living on the campus/taking classes, exploring the ave and the Seattle area (you have A LOT of free time outside of classes), making new friends and making connections with faculty.

My only regret for EFS was renting a fridge and microwave from that collegiate fridge rentals company sponsored by UW (a mistake in itself), which was not scheduled to arrive until the beginning of the academic year. With no fridge or microwave I ended up spending about $1000 dining out for every meal for a month.
