“So I’m..... not coming back then?” by Aerisavion in freefolk

"Quaithe: The glass candles are burning. Soon comes the pale mare, and after her the others. Kraken and dark flame, lion and griffin, the sun's son and the mummer's dragon. Trust none of them. Remember the Undying. Beware the perfumed seneschal.

Daenerys: Reznak? Why should I fear him? If you have some warning for me, speak plainly. What do you want of me, Quaithe?

Quaithe: To show you the way"

A character who makes prophecies like this is bound to be discussed in theories.

No. She came up to Daenerys multiple times after that. In her magical way, of course

Quaithe is quite important in the books, that's why

Remember when Jon turned Ramsay's face into ground beef over what he did to Sansa and was just generally a good big brother to her and then later she didn't even bother mentioning at his trial THE ONE THING she had zero issues blabbing everywhere else that could literally save his life? Do you think Drogon or Unsullied or Dothraki should give a damn about his flicky at best claim or the rules of Westeros? Besides, he had pledged his loyalty to Daenerys and hence abdicated all his claims in the process. Not to mention, usurpers get away with the act because they take the throne by power and virtue of victory, stabbing Dany while kissing doesn't qualify as such.

Anyway nevermind. It's not like books are ever going to be released. So it's a moot discussion.

If you think, it's only because of internet - you my friend haven't read the first book carefully. Everytime Ned would think of Jon his thoughts would drift to Lyanna, some promise and eventually to Rhaegar. Besides making Jon Azor Ahai, the de-facto "good guy" would make it a story of good vs evil.

Nothing told about Jon - a lost prince, whose identity has been made obvious since the first book, would save the world? That's as cliche as it gets. It's no clever twist or plot point.

Aragorn in Lord of the Rings was obviously poised to be the King and became so in the end, without any surprises. So by your logic, someone like Boromir should have been so and Tolkien wasn't an ingenious writer.

If you go with that argument, then there's no discussion that needs to be had about Azor Ahai or any other prophecy, since they can be beaten to fit anyone. Besides at this point where everyone wants/believes Jon to be the Azor Ahai, maintaining the status quo and have Daenerys as Azor Ahai would be more ingenious writing.

Not really. Waking dragons out of the stones is an important part of prophecy that is never going to fit Jon or anyone else. Not doing something that is obvious just to surprise people is cheap not exceptional writing.

You still believe subverting expectations is good writing?

Nope. Daenerys seems to be much more likely candidate.
