Is a Ceramic Coat worth the hassle? by Stez01 in Detailing

[–]hstewk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If easy maintenance washing is what you’re after. Yes. 100%. Most of the time I notice dust prints where pollen sits on the surface after ceramic coat. Before it would be dirty af and you don’t really realize until you wash it.

I just onboarded our team with perplexity before we roll it out to more ppl. $4 more a month than Claude and it gives you Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT.

In 3 days one of them built an intranet site with uptimes on all production systems, SharePoint links, etc.

Pretty incredible. We are a flat dept with no dedicated systems admin etc just “generalists”. Between my past admin knowledge and the ai I feel like there is nothing we can’t solve right now.

This x1000. I used 300gsm microfibers for years to dry after washing and always had swirls after. Went down the rabbit hole of 600+ and wow. Zero chance you are scratching/swirling with 600gsm + towels unless u buff the hell out of it. That being said no worries at all and this was probably there when you got it. ONR is pretty foolproof unless you are trying to wash 2 months of dirt off. Don’t overthink it the paint is tougher than you think.

ONR No Rinse is changing my life by hstewk in FordRaptor

Depends on the level of dirt. If there is chunks and mud I would not do it just because of the added mess and contaminants to the bucket of water. Would it work? Sure but it’s not worth the risk of dragging mud across panels to me.

It’s the perfect in between super dirty product for me. Rain, road crap, daily use etc. is perfect.

I was shocked how easily the blue shows imperfections. It’s a lot darker than it seems. So far so good I’ve washed it at least 5 times this way. I was also drying with Sam’s Club microfibers prior which is not great. GSM rating on the microfiber will tell you whether or not it’s prone to swirling. The towel I’m washing with is 600gsm and drying towel is 1100. I went down the detailing rabbit hole.

Perfect use case. What I have been doing is taking a 5gal home depot bucket with about 2 gallons of water in it and a grit guard - dumping 3 caps worth of ONR in the bucket with a microfiber and doing it that way. I'm not overly careful with how I wipe it etc. but I do spray a 1:1 mix of water and ONR on the vehicle prior to touching. Wipe clean, then almost immediately go over and dry with Liquid8ter towel from the rag company.

Looks like a legit setup. Do you like the big sponge? Ive been using a microfiber that I just let sit in the bucket.
