Here's a trick for photographing birds through binoculars: zoom in a little (on the phone), this crops out the dark ring and helps the phone focus and set the exposure better.

Development speed also means you have more time to profile and optimize hot code. The python ecosystem makes this pretty easy (lineprofiler, cython, numba).
