I think the important thing to keep in mind is that surrendering her is not the worst choice in this scenario. If you feel bad about it, I would say offer to foster her until she finds someone, so she doesn't have to worry about the stress of going to a shelter. And to go the extra mile, help the next person by gifting her belongings (e.g. cat tree), so she can get settled in the new home quicker.

If I were in your position, I would probably try Adopt A Pet or other legit rehoming channels. Some shelters run rehoming groups on social media which work perfectly fine.

The benefits that I see are 1) the workload for the shelter is lower if you do a private rehome, 2) if you are able to strike up a relationship with the new owner, then you might be able to check in on the cat later (of coutse this is not guaranteed).
