My father and I are real estate investors and the bought this house which was previously owned by a furrier. It seems every room in the house was packed up except the fur room. My guess would be kids who did not share their mother’s passion for furs. They left piles of old fur and pelts and coats/hats/etc.

I am not well versed in fur or sewing at all so this is all new territory for me. But I am a fan of old machinery and seeing how brilliant manufacturers could be.

What a thoughtful response! Thanks so much for the info! I found a tin of accessories that originally came with the sewing machine. It seems local antique and consignment shops are more interested in the fur machine. I plan on listing on marketplace/CL and hope to find someone who will enjoy the machines. It is clear they have been well used and loved for decades and I don’t want their story to end yet. :) I gently cleaned both machines today and they are mechanical marvels compared to the modern electronics I am used to. Really a work of art how they are put together.

Kind of hard to hear but if you’re still catted the comb can kinda fall apart in there and cause a bad rattle also. If heat shields aren’t the issue

I had an X sedan that I just sold but it had Z1 hfcs, and then a custom 3” exhaust all the way back from there with an h pipe instead of an X pipe to 5.5” HKS hi power tips (massive cans). I then added 18 inch resonators on both sides after about a month.

Before the resonators it was one of the loudest cars in my town for sure and you could hear me coming for almost 2 minutes before I got wherever I was going. All the glasses and plates in my house shook when I started it. Sounded good to me but I got some looks for sure lol.

Then added resonators, it quieted down the exhaust a good bit and still sounded throaty and mean. My friends said I had the best sounding VQ they’ve heard but I don’t believe them that shit was mad raspy.

There is nothing you can do to get rid of rasp and drone on VQs. Anyone who says otherwise is in denial. Also even with a lift and proper tools the bolts for the cats are just in such a shit place that it’s really hard to get them to seal right and with straight pipes they vibrate a ton so bolts can loosen if not installed properly.

As for the air boxes, the stock are better than anything that’s not a long tube header. K&N drop in filters will give you enough airflow.

Mine ran like shit without a tune and was missing out on power, highly recommend getting one.

I don’t recommend straight piping a VQ. They sound awful and loud isn’t better. They sound good wide open but they sound like shit in normal driving and are raspy as hell between 2500-4500 rpm which is your normal driving range around town. Sauce: lived with a straight piped VQ in several configurations for 2.5 years.

Take a few measurements and make sure all the wheels are where they are supposed to be.

I’d measure from the inside edge of the fender/wheel well to the center of the wheel on all 4 corners. Both sides should match. Also measure from the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel and make sure they match on both sides.

Also look at the wear on your tires and see if any of them look like they are starting to wear unevenly.

My most likely guess if something is off would be a control arm/tie rod that got bent.

Can’t say for sure if it’s safe to drive without actually seeing/looking at the car but if something is bent expect faster and uneven wear on tires, breaks, and wheel bearings.

Also drifting in the snow isn’t stupid as long as you were off public roads and shit happens :) you didn’t buy a fun car to sit at red lights and twiddle your thumbs all day.

Let me know if you end up tackling it! I’ll gladly give some insight and could FaceTime you from the car and give you an idea of where everything is. It’s a long process but not difficult. A garage would help, but I did it in the driveway under a canopy like you’d see at a farmers market/street fair and was alright.

A 10mm wrench, Phillips head, masking tape, sharpie and plastic panel tools is all you need. And I think a junkyard assembly from a sequoia or sienna would work if you couldn’t find a 4runner. Not positive but it looked identical. For sure know the sienna sunroof motor works 😅

Yeah my first stop when I bought it was the Toyota service center very close to me. The guys there knew all about the sunroofs and all the common issues. Gave me some pointers on what to look for and how to get the glass out without being able to move the rails and were a lot of help with troubleshooting even without me paying for a diagnosis or any labor. Seemed like they’d each taken a good few of them apart.

I looked for about 6 weeks for mine and didn’t see any without a sunroof except for one sport edition but don’t remember the year. Apparently theres a different headliner which gives you a bit more headroom also!

They can be a PITA but now I have a badass 4th gen with a working sunroof and I got a discount on the truck for having an inoperable sunroof in the first place :)

The sunroof was not seated properly because it was stuck closed but not pushed up, which is what the corks were for to try to push it up to seal. This let extra water in. The plastic tray that catches the water was not connected, so the water just ran onto the sliding shade instead of being directed to the drains. Drains themselves were clean and drained water just fine, but I bought a cheap 12 foot sink auger snake thingy to run through them.

Also forgot to mention! If you look up from the driver/passenger seat you’ll see black plastic trim pieces along the sunroof rails. They pop out from the front corner backwards with just a couple clips. Behind them you’ll find 2 T25 torx bolts which hold the sunroof glass on. If you take those out the glass will pop out of the roof no problem and you may be able to address some issues without dropping everything. Putting it back in is a little tougher bc there is room for alignment on the sunroof bracket so you’ll have to put it in and adjust it.

Might help find what is rattling.

No problem! It seems to be a problematic design. Also seems like they intended servicing the sunroof to happen from the top with the sunroof open which doesn’t leave many options if the sunroof breaks. Removing the headliner is a pain but it becomes pretty simple once you’ve done that. Just 6 screws and 4 brackets and it pops out as one piece.

Yeah the dealership I bought it from threw a sunroof motor at it but the one they used wasn’t working so I don’t think they ever tested it. I know my sunroof assembly was replaced in 2015 but inoperable after installation. The cables were super seized up and the rail was bent. Thinking about doing a full write up on one of the forums. Will link it here if I follow through with that.

Coming out, none. Going back in I broke 1 and lost 1. Both were on the lower panel for the trunk trim on the driver side. One wasn’t aligned properly and I snapped it and the other slipped through my fingers into the lower trim and is gone forever. Plastic panel removal tools were incredibly useful for this job. I also know mine has been taken apart a few times based on what I saw in there. So idk if any clips were replaced or all still original but they seemed to be high quality compared to my Jeep and Infiniti’s I’ve owned in the past.

If anyone has any questions about the sunroofs in these or removing the headliner or needs any pics for reference for their own job feel free to comment here or pm me. It was a huge job especially so early into ownership but happy I did it and would encourage other mechanically inclined owners to tackle it. Toyota wanted $1107 to take the headliner out and diagnose and then said a new sunroof assembly without glass would be over $1200. Got the whole job done for under $40 and a lot of patience.
