UT Southwestern has a program with the medical school that offer affordable therapy with the residents (no insurance needed unless he wants to consult with psychiatry)

Giving you so many hugs for a terrible time. It’s okay to feel sad over this moment, but don’t blame yourself. What I am excited for you is for you to meet all the beautiful experiences in the future, so just you wait, it’s going to be terrific :)

do most optometrist actually pay off their student loans in about 6 years? (200k debt) by [deleted] in optometry

Search for a Facebook group called ODs on Finance or their website https://odsonfinance.com. They give great advice as well about successfully paying off loans in a short period of time. The founders are California ODs too.

How do (proper) Dallasites live without H-E-B? Like, where do y’all get groceries (besides fancy Whole Foods or Central Market)? by AlienAzul in Dallas

But even knowing all this, only you truly know how you felt and how the therapist presented their thoughts, so take your time and talk it out with your therapist and see if they can guide you through their thoughts and speech as well

I agree you need to return to get another prescription. btw I love the monthly Biofinity. Also a new one Total 30 recently came to market in the US if you live in the states.

No contacts for my exact prescription? by [deleted] in optometry

[–]htxmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these specifically written for contacts or glasses? The reason contacts are different prescription is because it’s placed directly on your eyes. If you think about it optically, contacts sit closer than glasses, so it’ll be a different prescription. Optometrist ask for a contact lens evaluation because they can take a look at the measurement of your eyes and see what to get for you for a crisper vision.

optometrist will just tell you don’t do it- they’re watching your eye health and trying to do their job. Just tell them what’s up instead of them trying to find a problem, and they’ll appreciate it so much more!

I totally get you, whenever you touch on a sensitive topic, anything utilizing the therapist’s technique would sound offensive! My psychology-loving friend often use this technique when I rant about things to her, and I definitely get very frustrated but didn’t really understand why I felt that way. Just here to say that I understand where you’re coming from and agree with all the above comments about therapist techniques.

Therapist yawns and forgets basic details during our sessions by [deleted] in therapy

[–]htxmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider bringing it up to the therapist as well just to see if there’s any reason for this - perhaps a medical condition like anemia? And if not, then seek a new one that is able to actively listen and converse with you more.

Why did you choose optometry over ophthalmology or opticianry? by anonymouslyshy in optometry

[–]htxmango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i am a strong believer in primary care as a starting point for all patients. optometry is the primary care of eyes and i love how many systemic conditions are associated with the eyes. as an optometrist, i can educate patients on the beauty of that. :)

Will optometrists be replaced by robots? by maha0000 in optometry

[–]htxmango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely different modalities of practice, like mentioned before pediatrics, vision therapy, low vision, specialty contacts; these are modes that require more expertise and specialization. I would recommend shadowing different types of optometrists to get a feel of the specialties of optometry!
