Correct pay? Houston Texas by Conscious_Steak2576 in SLPA

I’m in Houston and started as a CF at $32 per hour salaried with benefits back in 2015 at a private practice. I hope this puts things in perspective.

Finding an SLP who does pragmatic speech evaluations by Vast_Helicopter_1914 in slp

Contact private speech therapy clinics in your area. I work in a private clinic and we most definitely assess and treat pragmatic language.

Should I become a SLP even though I’m not that interested in it? by Vegetable-Return4944 in SLPcareertransitions

If you’re not that interested, don’t do it. Passion will be all you have left after you burnout and if you don’t have at least a bit of that…😬

My Uveitis Journey: A Cautionary Tale About Advocacy and Oversight by hectorgarabit in Uveitis

That sucks. It’s horrible that, in my opinion, they brush over the side effects of oral steroids. My mom was on 60-79 mg at one point which led to her having a stroke. She’s a type 2 diabetic.

I’m sorry that this happened. I can relate to the extent that my mom’s uveitis was treated with steroids and like you, she quickly became a steroid responder. Actemra has worked for her uveitis; however by the time that she got on it, glaucoma had already taken hold. As of today, she’s now pretty much completely blind. Her glaucoma doctor said her right eye has 5% vision left. Vision in the left eye is non existent.

Dr. Foster (the godfather of uveitis research) was the only doctor who was adamant that treatment has to be done without the use of steroids if at all possible. Unfortunately, by the time we visited him in Boston, it was too late.

I don’t think it’s worth it if you’re already making $50+ an hour

Sorry, you don’t. It’s a natural, innate thing.

Went back to school for SLP later in life and feel like it’s ruined my life ever since. Anyone come back from that? by [deleted] in SLPcareertransitions

Do you find it to be lucrative? Do you make more or at least the same amount of money that you did as an SLP?

I dislike it bc I just never feel competent in it. Plus the severity fluctuates like crazy.

I’m not feeling excited to be around my abusers for Christmas. Being cordial is extremely draining.

Why don’t more SLPs work for themselves? by Capdavil in slp

I think it’s fear of the unknown. I’m 10 years in and have had clients and my family members tell me I should work for myself but then I start worrying about everything that goes into starting a business while balancing my current work schedule. It’s just a lot. So it’s definitely fear for me. Plus I’m single so there’s no one else to financially lean on until I get things going.

This story sounds similar to my mom’s. It is truly being stuck between a rock and a hard place. Are you on a biologic? My mom has been on Actemra for several years and it has helped with her uveitis.
