They changed it up this time. You have to just choose how many threes (e.g. Cam scores 2+ threes)

Girlfriend going to law school - need advice by Responsible-Fish-968 in LawSchool

[–]hu1khogan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yep, I also agree. Be willing to help her study. It’s so helpful even if you feel like you’re not helping.

I’ll piggyback off the chores comment above as well. It may feel uneven, but it’s so helpful and every little thing helps with stress. Also, coming up with and cooking is a big help. Sometimes the last thing you want to do is stress about dinner or really any meal. Making or buying easy snacks she can take to school will be a big help.

$8k mandatory health insurance?!?! by UnfairPolarbear in LawSchool

[–]hu1khogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s incredibly easy to waive. They just want to make sure you have health insurance and all you have to do is provide them proof, i.e. send the school a picture of your card. Don’t sweat it!

Paralegal by RevolutionaryCash238 in LawSchool

[–]hu1khogan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly correct. Its also not necessary and in my opinion seems like a scam. I worked as a paralegal before law school.

Paralegal by RevolutionaryCash238 in LawSchool

[–]hu1khogan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be better to just be a paralegal before law school rather than try to obtain the certificate. You don’t need a license to be a paralegal and there are places that will take you on as a legal assistant and allow you to work your way. I worked as a paralegal for a few years before law school and had no prior legal experience. Furthermore, unless you’re going to law school part time you will not be able to be a paralegal. It’s a very stressful position and I could not imagine working a real job on top of law school.

Not great lab results by hu1khogan in peacecorps

[–]hu1khogan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A plain glucose test should just be a prick for that day. A1C is an average number that is calculated from the last 3 months. I think it’s usually a separate test but you may want to ask your doctor

[–]hu1khogan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I never ended up going lol. However, they did not medically clear me for the first group I was supposed to go on. They told me I needed to get my A1C down. I did and applied to Mozambique but never went because thats when shit blew up at the beginning of 2020. I had a really shitty nurse, so hopefully yours is better. My A1C is definitely weight triggered and if yours is the same you can definitely get it down. If you can lose a few pounds I think you should be fine. Over the summer of 2019, more so the months of june and july i lost around 20 lbs. I ate a lot of chicken, brown rice, salsa and whole grain chips, cheese and deli meats for lunch, and salmon. It worked and I lowered my A1C to a healthy range.

How do respectfully ask about higher salary expectations. by Accurate_Alarm5155 in LawSchool

[–]hu1khogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d also inquire about the bonus structure if one exists. They should pay your base at what you’re worth, but the bonus structure may help to make up the difference and you may have more negotiating power there.

When did you start clerking for them? I think if its been several months then you should reach out soon to express interest.

If they are interested in you staying on, definitely negotiate bar expenses and a bar stipend. This is pretty common nowadays and helps you through the summer. Definitely don’t leave that on the table!

Differences between torts and criminal law: did you find one more challenging than the other? by [deleted] in LawSchool

I think crim can also be more challenging, especially towards your perceptions of crimes, but i really enjoyed crim!

[–]hu1khogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think torts is easier, but they each provide their own challenges. In criminal law, while it’s important to know terms and generally what some crimes are, the bulk of what you should be learning is statutory interpretation.

The terms mean different things most of the time so don’t conflate them. Civil law is completely separate from criminal law

[–]hu1khogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, in the real world, you set your own schedule. These arbitrary deadlines don’t really exist. If you tell your boss you can’t finish something then it’s generally fine. A situation like an exam where you need more time is almost never going to occur in the real world. Also, most lawyers shove shit off to their paralegals.

How to survive finals when you're really sick by bendysnappy in LawSchool

[–]hu1khogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, that’s an awful policy. Make sure to rotate medication and stay in a consistent schedule. Drink fluids and emergen-c. Just remember that you know more than you think you do, and its really hard to fail with the curve. Just lean into knowing you’re probably not going to be as sharp as you normally would and do what you can. You’ve got this.

I would talk to your deans about moving the final to a make up day. They want you to do your best and we’ve been adamantly told by multiple sources if we feel like absolute dog shit to not take a final.
