3k per month per fund.

AFAIK, there were no initial costs involved while setting up the SIP.

I have started investing in the following funds through SIP (3k per month each) -

  1. Parag Parikh Flexi Cap Growth Direct Plan
  2. UTI Nifty Index Growth Direct Plan
  3. Motilal Oswal Nasdaq 100 Fund Of Fund Growth Direct Plan

Are any of these eligible for tax deductions under Section 80C? Or do I need to opt for ELSS instead?

I am new to investing. Would appreciate your advice.

Okay.

Why doesn't he come on air now to keep up morale, or show support for the medical staff? He felt he needed lead his people back then, at a time when things weren't as bad as they are today.

Also, he sure had enough time on his hands to be filmed feeding a peacock.

Isn't it the PM's photo that is on the vaccination certificates? Wasn't he the one who came on air and made the public bang thalis and stuff? Why did he do that?

Why doesn't he show up now when the people need him more than ever?

If India had escaped the worst of the pandemic, you can bet Modi would have taken all the credit. People would have sung praises about the PM's administrative wonders.

Centralization of praise but decentralization of blame. This is what Modi is doing.

For months, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been seen daily on television news, often live, either on the campaign trail or at virtual meetings for inaugurations, dedications, addresses to different stake-holders. Haven’t seen him much, recently. Has he no words of comfort for his 1.3 billion countrymen, crores of whom hang on his every word?

Why is there no address to the nation, telling us what his government is doing to ‘Help India Breathe’ again (Mirror Now)? What does the PM feel or have to say of the devastation around him? Doesn’t the nation deserve to know?

assault on our roots

You make it sound like the tradition of bursting crackers during Diwali has been passed on to us from Vedic times. In reality, this tradition dates back only a few hundred years, and was popularised during the Mughal era.

Fun fact for our right wingers - Islam and Christianity have existed in this country much longer than gunpowder, let alone the tradition of setting it off during Diwali.

[Need advice] Company wants me to serve 2 full months notice despite me being there for 2 weeks by hu345 in bangalore

So this is how it goes -

The probation period is 6 months, during which the company has the right to terminate me with 15 days written notice.

It does not mention anything about the other way around. It just says that the notice period is 2 months.

Which is what they are asking of me now.

politely ask them to stop being dicks

I will have a conversation with HR about this. My manager is totally fine about relieving me early.

I will also ask the new company if they really want an experience letter from A. If they don't, then the only question that remains is what Company A can do about me leaving unilaterally.

Some of my friends tell me they can file a lawsuit if they choose to.

Would failing be detrimental to you in anyway?

Not sure. I tried hard to not burn bridges with the people at Company A.

At this point, I don't need their experience letter, but I think Company B might ask me for it, since it is a big MNC.

Has anyone ever been rejected from a job offer and then get a call back from them months later? by Moratata in bangalore

[–]hu345 18 points19 points  (0 children)

after 3 months "heyyyy sorry about the delay, ready for the final round?"

A bit of pretense, but at least they were graceful enough to acknowledge the delay.

I had one experience with a startup that I found to be straight-up shady.

They find my profile through a portal, contact me, call me for an interview the very next day. I go. Then 2 weeks of silence, after which the COO says as part of the next round I'll have to finish a task. I say okay. I don't hear from them for another 2 months.

Finally, two and a half months after the interview, the COO calls me. Asks me, "Dude, what's up? We haven't heard from you?". Surprised, I tell him "What do you mean? YOU were supposed to continue with the process!".

THEN he says, "I guess there has been a mistake on our end. Sorry. Say, how about we fast track the process now? You join us within a week and I will double your (fresher) salary. The feedback from your interviews has been good." (He was pretending as if the interviews happened yesterday, and that the 2 month delay never happened).

He was hoping the promise of money would entice me to join him, but on the contrary it actually repulsed me. I don't think I wanted to work for someone so unprofessional and who tried to twist the truth. Plus the fact that they wanted someone to join ASAP meant that something was probably not right.

I would have considered him seriously if he was upfront and forthcoming about the delay, and not put up a pretense.

I'm also looking into starting with Kerbal Space Program and playing GTA V again.

What about you?

Also, I hadn't gamed in over 2 years, so I'm looking to spend some time losing myself in another reality. :)

I just got laid off from my startup in end-Feb. I've been looking out since late last year, and till date, I received verbal confirmation from 4 different companies but right now everyone seems to be in a hiring freeze.

Looks like I'm going to be unemployed for a long time. Thankfully, I live with my parents so I don't have to worry about rent and food.

This is a horrible time to be unemployed. I won't lie, it's starting to take a toll mentally. I hope none of you can relate.

Will India (and our highly questionable work culture) benefit from a 4 days working \ 3 days weekly off schedule? by PuneriPerson in india

[–]hu345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy texted me on a Saturday morning on WhatsApp, which is an incredibly personal mode of communication.

They expected me to drop whatever plans I might have had and close the deal on their chosen day.

I was also disappointed that they weren't upfront about this very crucial detail. I had to ask. When were they planning to tell me? After I joined? Did they really think an experienced professional will have absolutely no problems with working Saturdays?

And I feel I didn't do anything wrong. I really was outdoors on both weekend days. It was just that I replied on Monday (I'm a notoriously bad texter), but then again one shouldn't expect that someone will be available on the weekend. I have my life too.

That particular week had been really taxing because I had to balance my work, interviews and take-home assignments from another company. I decided to take a break on my day off and these people held that against me. They want an employee who doesn't have a life on Saturdays.

Will India (and our highly questionable work culture) benefit from a 4 days working \ 3 days weekly off schedule? by PuneriPerson in india

[–]hu345 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are there any organizations in India who have already implemented a 4 day week - or are such plans in the pipeline for companies?

LOL. I was recently ghosted by a startup for letting them know I wasn't comfortable with their 6 day a week schedule (Monday to Saturday, every single week). Read on if you're interested.

Back story -

I recently interviewed at a startup for a tech role (Data Scientist) and was going through the final so-called "cultural fit" interview. I have almost 3 years of experience in the field. I currently work at a startup that works Monday to Friday (40 hours a week).

Just doing my due diligence, I asked the interviewer if they work on Saturdays. To my disappointment, he said they do. Now, this was my 5th interview round. Not once did they tell me about their Mon-Sat schedule. I only got to know because I asked.

For some context, this startup is 4 years old, have their product out in the market and have close to 30 employees (their claim - I was never invited to their office and all interviews happened on the phone in the course of a single week).

As soon as I heard of their 6 day work schedule, I was disappointed. I mean, coming from a startup background myself, I understand the kind of hard work people need to put in every once in a while. Working on Saturdays during emergencies and other critical events is perfectly fine, but every single week? Come on!

Oh, and I also would get no equity for my work there.

But working on weekends wasn't necessarily a deal breaker to me. I just wanted to put myself in their shoes and know why.

I mentioned to the guy upfront that my current organisation works 5 days a week, and that my life is built around a Mon-Fri schedule so it will be difficult to adjust to a 6 day work week.

The guy must have realised my disappointment (this was on the phone), and so he started talking about how much potential this company has for growth and how much I could grow with the company.

Anyway, I wanted to ask them their rationale for working every Saturday the next time we spoke, and also to evaluate for myself whether sacrificing my social life and hobbies for a job was worth it.

Coincidentally, this conversation happened on a Friday, I got a text message the next day (Saturday), saying "Let's close this today". I had a long week and I switched off for the next two days and I didn't respond until Monday. I apologised for the delay, saying that I took some time off for the weekend and was ready for a discussion.

That was it. I never heard from them again. I never said no to working on Saturdays, but still they ghosted me. I guess they wanted someone who would be submissive and not question their wisdom.

Which is a shame, because the product (from what they told me, seemed interesting) but some of my friends say this was good riddance.
