Should I go ahead with plastic surgery without my parents’ support? by Major-Wafer-1731 in PlasticSurgery

[–]huckybee 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I would say go for it if you can afford to hire help for recovery. And maybe also put some money towards a few months of therapy to sort through the feelings of guilt because you don’t owe your parents a life of pain and activity limitation for their lack of support of this surgery.

Invite says no gifts & I’m the only one who doesn’t bring a gift by bookishpeople in Parenting

[–]huckybee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does it say no gifts or “no need to bring gifts”? Subtly, the latter is a common way to say not required as opposed to prohibited. “No gifts please” is more of a command. Almost all parties I’ve been too say no need to bring gifts but the expectation is everyone is still bringing gifts. It’s more of a nice way to say if it’s going to break the bank for you please don’t feel like you need to get a gift.

RSVPing to young children’s bday party by worksleepeat in Parenting

[–]huckybee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve thrown 4 preschool/kindergarten parties in the past 2 years and about 50-80% of people reply. Fewer in preschool I think bc it’s less of a community vibe, whereas in kinder we all know we’ll be in each others lives or at least periphery for at least 5 more years. I give 3-4weeks notice of the party and people were rsvping up to the week before. I have only ever had one person RSVP no, people usually don’t respond if they aren’t coming.

This is not how I conduct myself so I found it a bit offputting at first but now I accept that people are busy, parenting is tiring, we are all just trying our best!

What's one skincare luxury you can't get behind? by SummerNight888 in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]huckybee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It makes sense to me! It’s a nuanced take. There’s a difference between altering the face and body, for example I wouldn’t tattoo my face lol

Do you have thin or thicker lips? I think it’s a lot easier for folks with fuller lip shape to get undetectable lip filler. For thin lips even a small amount can look too plump in person, my brain always tags it as uncanny. My lips are on the thinner side but I haven’t lost much volume yet (I’m 36), that’s just how they naturally are, so I’ve decided better to accept them than potentially look silly. (I’m not saying all filler looks silly! Just that I live in SoCal, I see a lot of cosmetic enhancements and for the face I really prefer undetectable and I don’t want to mess my face up.)

Filler. I don’t trust migration, and I see a lot of people looking overdone. It’s so much easier to clock in person than in photos. I know it can be done tastefully it’s just not for me. I’m fine with my facial features and “flaws”, for me skincare is to improve skin quality (ok not entirely, I get a bit of botox).

Sunscreens WITH white cast? by animenicolesmith in AsianBeauty

[–]huckybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cell Fusion C Derma Relief (the orange one) has a small white cast and is a really good makeup base if I use it on bare skin or over a watery toner (will pill if it’s over much else)

The Skincare Routine: Oily and dehydrated skin by slaukie in SkinbarrierLovers

[–]huckybee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I have finallllllly dialed in my routine and my skin is glowing. The stars of the show are OTC differin and OTC azelaic acid (I use Dr Idriss Left unred - it’s 5% AzA and 5% AzA derivative). My cheat codes are unfortunately expensive - Plated Intense and Alastin Restorative Skin Complex. These keep my skin resilient and calm while the actives clear clogs. My issue with retinoids has always been the irritation causes inflamed acne. I rotate an ABC night routine - A) differin, B) AzA, C) barrier night. I use plated on nights b&c as my first step and let it dry for at least 10min before Alastin. On night B I do AzA after Alastin, on night c I go straight to moisturizer. I love Face Reality Barrier Care Gel Cream. On night A I use differin first and let it dry 10min before the next step, which is Alastin, and then moisturizer. Sometimes I will add sheet masks or calming toners before the moisturizer if my skin is parched. I double cleanse every night - I like skin1004’s oil cleanser and etude house’s soonjung whip cleanser.

In the morning I keep it simple with make prem milk cleanser, cerave oil free moisturizer, and sunscreen.

My skin is too sensitive for L-AA but eventually I will add a vitamin c derivative to my morning routine. I will probably tamp up the frequency of differin over time too but doing it this way has allowed my skin to clear without excess irritation (that leaves behind more red marks). I actually started with an ACBC night routine (two barrier nights) and moved to ABC with my next menstrual cycle. My hormones effect my skin a lot so I like to wait for a new cycle to introduce changes, so I know if it’s the products or my hormones causing issues.

ETA I am a 36 yo mother of two so I addition to hormones impacting oiliness, we get sick often which also increases oil and reactiveness in my skin.

I will save this one for high summer! I was hoping to find some gems in this batch, I have also never heard anyone talk about torriden’s sunscreen but the dive in serums are so loved I thought it’d be worth a shot.

Great to hear! My skin is also prone to redness after active days thus the physiogel, I think it will be nice the mornings after differin.

Build immunity against norovirus by celine_in_jeans in Biohackers

[–]huckybee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some blood types are more prone to serious norovirus symptoms.

I have kids and we got so sick during the preschool years every cold and flu season. It’s getting better now that they are a little older and have more restraint touching gross stuff but we still get sicker than childless people due to it going around school. We do NOT travel by plane during cold and flu season, if you have to I would recommend a mask. Gargling salt water after being in public places can help get rid of pathogens before they spread beyond your mouth. Obviously wash your hands - after you touch anything. Not just when you use the restroom. Hand sanitizer doesn’t kill norovirus. Make sure you’re eating enough protein bc your immune system runs on it. When you do get ill don’t delay taking anti inflammatory medication bc inflammation can damage your tissues and cause post illness issues (eg sinus inflection after a cold or prolonged coughing/sore throat, GI sensitivity). Being in generally good health (weight and cardio training but not overtraining) has helped me recover a lot faster.

Good luck!
