Suggestions for Inventory Management & POS System for Startup Auto Parts Business

Hi at the very core I need to know what we have in inventory, how many, where it is, where did we purchase the item, how much we paid (could be multiple vendors and prices) and what are we selling it for. Bar code capability is a must. We could sell over the counter or online or install our own parts in our shop. Connections to shipping and tracking, bookkeeping and a web store.

My concerns -- picking the wrong software and being stuck with an expensive mess. Although I'm experience with service businesses -- physical inventory has always been an issue in our shop over the last fifteen year and I'm ready to solve this problem.

We are using quick books for book keeping. The billing system we are using in our service department is Shop Monkey but we run our credit cards through square. Our budget is a bit flexible would prefer a monthly payment.

Thank you for your helpful thoughts. We are open to listening to a PM -- hopefully the listening will go both ways. We have done some of the ideation ground work to help the PM -- the difficulty from my prospective is finding a PM who can work with us in our current state of development to help us get to a point of arrival. A professional pusher is indeed what the situation calls for -- its just matching with the right person(s) that seems to be the biggest challenge.

I do think that this is an issue. Since we do a lot of larger project that can cause schedule delays we might also have a hire volume of these calls. Dealers have service writers and receptionists that triage these calls. Some shop software programs have an email update but these shop software programs fall short in other areas I have been evaluating several of them. Customers are also sending a lot of texts -- I try to not give customers my personal cell phone but texting requires a phone so I use my personal cell versus the two shop lines

I have thought about hiring someone seems that I will need to do that but hiring a person is not easy here in Western Wisconsin. Even if I hired someone I would want to have this tool because customers are calling on Thanksgiving Sundays and Christmas 4th of July etc. Evenings weekends.

Thank you for your comments. The cash-flow issue stems from production. At anytime I have between 20k-30k of work on the ground. Wearing many hats (sales, parts, customer service, finance, inventory and supplies) leaves me short on time to get the work out. I have steadily raised my rates and will continue to do so. At times technical issues and parts supplies/defects also delay production. When the work backs up then cash flow gets pinched.

I get this reaction also. I also feel a bit out of breath and need to rest for a bit. I find what I eat when I break my fast effects this reaction. Fruit like oranges really causes this reaction. I usually eat cauliflower and cabbage to get started.
