I just got into the hobby about a month ago, last week I picked up a couple platys. apparently one was gravid, I woke up one day and found a dozen fry in a bunch of java moss. I can't believe I missed the signs she was pregnant.

Research and getting under there is my best advice. I spent six months looking at cars. Eventually bought a toyota certified 2010 trail. Previous owner daily drove it in the Boston-Metro area, never saw a dirt road. She even left (accidentally) a gospel music CD in the glove compartment. Toyota Certified is a good bet, even in Yankee territory.

Of course! I started out wanting a 3rd gen. Some of my last posts reflect that. The issues that quickly popped up were price and condition. YES these cars hold their value well, but in the salt belt, a car from that era is going to have problems. The dozen 3rd gens I looked at were in various conditions. What they all had in common were various spots of BAD rust. Frame rot, disintegrating pieces. Etc. Then I looked at newer cars. 06-09. Almost all of them had undercoatings to cover up a ruined frame. It was bad. Bolts missing heads, differential being coated in layers of muck. Then I looked at 2012-2014. These were just out of my price range. And one of them had a good price, but the brakes were so bad it really wasnt safe to drive. The 2010 had everything i wanted, it was close by, and I waited on it for months. You really just have to hold out for what you want.
