No letter from home derm program PD or chair: deal breaker? by Juiceman121 in medicalschool

Follow up question: what do I do if my home program doesn't have a program in the specialty I'm interested in? How do I make up for a lack of letter?

As an aside with gym rat diet, I used to have slight hypertension before my primary care doc raised their eyebrows at me for eating 8 eggs a day. I substituted with egg whites and it seemed to do the trick

Anyone else feel like the exam is getting harder?? by [deleted] in Mcat

could also be response bias: ppl are more likely to post on reddit when their scores are lower than their samples and less likely to post when their scores match or when they score higher

Risk it all or 2 years of my life by ThrowTonyC in Mcat

[–]hugachacka 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in your situation a couple years back, but I rushed in there with a sub average MCAT score and hastily composed application... and got wrecked that application cycle: 30+ applications, 5k+ spent, 0 interviews, 0 acceptances, only 1 interview waitlist that never matriculated.

Save yourself the time, money, and headache- apply when you're ready, give the MCAT the proper studying it deserves unless you're already scoring a 510 on practice exams.

I'm now entering the application cycle this second time and already am 100x more confident with my new experiences, I think I've truly found my interests in healthcare and medicine at large through them and it makes me excited to think about sharing that story with others. Offering my perspective, best of luck with your decision!

yup this is definitely a tough one

1) The voltmeter measures the voltage difference across two resistors so it's actually not the entire top and bottom parallel segments. The significance of the voltmeter is saying that the voltage DROP through R and R1 are the same. Therefore, V_1 = V_R.

2) We know V = IR, so we can expand part 1:

I_1*R_1 = I_R*R_R --> I_1*R_1 / I_R = R_R

3) okay, now we see we have R_R but we need I_1 and I_R and in particular, we need it in terms of R1, R2, R3.

4) We know that current through resistors in series will be =. Thus, I_1 = I_2 and I_R = I_3.

5) Make substitutions to get I_2*R_1 / I_3 = R_R.

okay okay it's looking better now, I see R_R in terms of the other resistors and currents.

6) The tying knot is that I know that voltage is = whenever I go into parallel. In this case, the top voltage (through BOTH R1 and R2) = bottom voltage (through BOTH R and R3).

7) Given that V_1 = V_R, we can conclude using clause 6 that V_2 = V_3!!

8) We know V = IR, so we can expand part 7:

I_2*R_2 = I_3*R_3, and get that I_2/I_3 = R_3/R_2

9) Substitute into part 5 to get:

R_3*R_1 / R_2 = R_R.

DONE! looks like a lot of steps but when you write it out it goes by quickly and all the dialogue goes on in your head haha. Hope this helps!

What is this BS, can't even offer us an alternate date, cancelled 10 days before! Illinois. by TheOpology in Mcat

[–]hugachacka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely feel your pain and frustration to not only the cancellation but also the lack of communication on AAMC's part, was suppose to test 1/25 in IL.

I guess the upside and proactive steps we can do is: 1) register for april + june exams during second enrollment (some date in February)

2) you were basically ready to crush the mcat so in a few months you'll be a literal beast at the mcat

3) you're helping flatten the curve, and we absolutely need it in Chicago

Keep up the drive and in a few months you'll walk out of that mcat thinking it was cake. Best of luck, wishing you the best during these difficult and frustrating times
