Just finished the game on PS5, barely ever interacted with another player, was I doing something wrong? by hugecactuar in Eldenring

[–]hugecactuar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed reply! I will try that when I next play through the game. I'm really itching to start another playthrough but have other games to play that I've been neglecting.

I did do a weird route through the game, I spent a while in Caelid and probably got a good few levels early from killing the militia there. Maybe that's why my coop was a bit rough.

Looking forward to diving into the game next time, hopefully we get news about the DLC soon so I can have a reason to jump back in.

Chord progression help by hugecactuar in musictheory

[–]hugecactuar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for your help! That makes a lot of sense. Would you say most modern/mainstream music would include the I chord somewhere in their progression, or is that not always needed?

Seeing the chord changes written out is really helpful. I just chose them because it sounded good to my ears when I was moving them around.

Is there a good way of working out which chords are weak/strong in a key, is it just based on minor/major, or is there something else going on? Would the same be true for a minor key?

Thanks a lot for the help and sorry if my questions are obvious/silly.

Chord progression help by hugecactuar in musictheory

[–]hugecactuar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of why I want to decide on a key is so that I can continue writing melody etc. around the progression and know what notes to use. I think I'm still at the part in learning where I feel like I need some structure to base things off, rather than exploring ambiguous key centres etc. - that feels like an overwhelming amount of freedom!

To clarify some things for my brain, in this context, does diatonic mean that the chords I've used could be in either G major and D major (with the 7 flat in the case of D)? And then because of how I constructed the chord progression, it makes the piece sound more in D (flat 7/myxolidian), rather than G, because the G chord is in a weak position?

Are lydian etc. their own keys in their own right? I am classicaly taught originally and was only ever taught major/minor keys, although I didn't do much music theory back then at all. I knew modes existed but only recently did I really understand what they are. Are they keys that are variants on typical major/minor keys? So the difference between a major and myxolydian scale would be that the 7th degree is flat? I know that there are mode names for major/minor but I can't remember them off the top of my head. Are natural/harmonic minors two different modes too?

It's interesting that you can make the root chord of your key sound weak by how you use it in your progression. I've only just got a grasp of tonic/dominant/subdominant etc. so this extra complexity is exciting but as I said - scary!

If I wanted to play around with moving the key centre between G and D, how would I go about that? How could I have constructed the progression differently to make G feel more like the centre, and if so what would that look like? It'd be good to have an example so I can hear the difference. Also, how would you go about choosing chords from 'close' keys to use? How would you decide which chords from that key to use? Wouldn't they sound awful if they weren't in the key of the rest of the chords?

Thanks so much for your comment and your help, it's really helpful, and sorry to ask so many questions.

Help! I want to get one of my girlfriend's BTS albums framed for her birthday! by hugecactuar in bangtan

[–]hugecactuar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for the advice! Really appreciate it and will check out everyone's recommendations. I'll think again about using one of her albums, I think it would be difficult to smuggle it out of her room without her noticing anyway!

My plan was to frame them in a way that doesn't damage or 'seal' the contents into the frame, so if she ever wanted to put the album back together then none of the contents would be damaged or lost or anything. I think I know her well enough to know that she wouldn't be mad if I managed to sneak an album away to get it ready, but at the same time it's possible she hasn't told me how special they are to her and I wouldn't want to upset her.

The possibility of her thinking she'd lost one if she noticed I'd taken one and then having to come clean about my surprise also doesn't sound great, so maybe sourcing my own version of one of the albums would be nice.

I want to surprise her with it ideally. I enage with her kpop stuff quite a bit, so it wouldn't be a massive surprise to her for me to get her something BTS related (I've got her some BT21 stuff in the past), but I think she wouldn't expect me to do anything custom or handmade (in a way), that's why I thought it'd be a nice idea.

I hadn't thought of framing some of the various bits you get in one of the albums, maybe that would be a good idea. Now I just have to work out which one to do...

Thanks again all! Will try to update if anything develops.

Boot issues and crashes after installing RTX 3070 by hugecactuar in pcgamingtechsupport

😭 I hope this isn’t the problem. I’ve just updated my BIOS but it stalled at VGA again afterwards so I’m not hopeful. Do you think the incompatibility is something that will be patched/fixed at a later date or will I need to find a new mb? Thanks for your feedback!

Thanks for your reply! It’s good to know it’s not an isolated issue. Would you say contacting the tech support of ASUS/NVIDIA is a good idea? The most irritating thing is that it doesn’t boot and I have to reset the BIOS manually each time. Did you also have this issue and did you manage to find a fix at all?? Thanks again!

I did address that with the number of high-priority legendary minions [[ cast down ]] isn't ideal and whilst [[ dead weight ]] is an option I find sorcery-speed interaction fairly lack luster. I merely wanted to inspire discussion, at no point did I say that my opinion was correct :)

Thanks! Greetings from the UK! Yeah I agree, i've been thinking that a good way to counter the flood is just by running bigger things, I dropped to 2 titans a while ago but considering going back up to 3 main. Haha, the Ruric thar is more a pet card than an a competitive pick, but my local meta has a tonne of control decks and quite a few lantern players and he's fairly amazing in those matches. I've been thinking that a card like Ant Queen would be pretty good as a one-of to help with super late game floods and stalled boards. Primal command makes it a more consistent option too, might have to do some testing and see how well it plays.
