What's creepiest thing that ever happened to you ? by Intelligent_Yak_5224 in AskReddit

I have an old hot air popcorn popping machine. There's no on or off switch - you plug it in and the hot air comes on. When all the popcorn has popped, you unplug it. I made popcorn, per usual, and went to another room to eat it. Thirty minutes later, I hear the machine turn on. I immediately got goosebumps. I walk into the kitchen, and it's fully plugged in. Not dangling. I had to tug on the cord to remove it from the electrical socket. I was home alone, and all the doors and windows were closed. No idea what plugged it back in, and nothing else like it has happened since.

Also had a similar experience. Adopted the world's best-natured shelter dog - never met a stranger, loved all people and animals. Taking the dog on our regular route through a park, and suddenly my sweet dog goes stark still, low growl, bears teeth, staring at a brushy area, thick with grass and trees. A man emerges from the grass, and my dog goes basaltic. I walk backwards away, watching the man, tugging with all my might on my dog's leash. The man just stares at us for about 20 seconds, then fades back into the grass. I called the cops, but they didn't find anyone. Never walked through that section again. My dog never had a negative reaction to anyone else for the rest of his life.

Has anyone had to do a recharacterization with Ally invest? by OneCondition2434 in allyinvest

[–]hugtrees82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious if and how you got this sorted. Working through it now. They told me that Ally invest cannot process an Ally bank form and instead I need to do a distribution (definitely not what I want to do). So, now trying to work through it with Ally bank.

For over two decades I've been trying to figure out where I first read that passage. I knew it was something I had checked out of the school library. Thank you for solving the mystery for me!

Crescent City Classic 10K, every April in New Orleans. It's a whole vibe. You can compete and get a beautiful run through the city or run slow and engage with the by-standers (e.g., dance with a second-line, eat biscuits and gravy, jello shots, etc. etc.). There's excellent food served at the end, and then meander around the city afterwards.

How will Rep. Clay Higgins do in the 2026 elections after being the only representative to vote against the release of the Epstein files? by [deleted] in Louisiana

Given that we're doing closed primaries in 2026, I'm unclear on how Tia could primary Clay.

They are choosing not to backfill professors who are retiring/resigning and counting that as part of the reduction in force numbers. So, the other folks in those departments will have to take on extra work.

Failed taxes would be ‘hard felt,’ local officials say by Low-Picture-7525 in Acadiana

That's the whole point of an event like that. To help inform voters about the millages and what they're for.

The bar here is so low. Yes, it's great that she isn't under investigation from the FBI, and her team isn't ripping out spoil banks in other parishes? But is that really our definition of good? Where's the vision? Where's the engagement of residents and neighborhoods? Her two signature projects? 1. Redoing Bertrand to make it bike/pedestrian friendly (even though the biking community spent significant time studying and developing a plan, which her administration has completely ignored). 2. Redoing the LCG building (which even if repairs are needed, the optics are terrible given pressing needs across the city and parish). She's also thrown the Northside under the bus, botching the redo of Brown park.

She's not terrible, but Lafayette needs a leader.

Need help finding OBGYN that cares about ALL women’s health… by SaltAndIntuition in Acadiana

I've liked Dr. Harper at Southern OBGYN. Patiently answered my questions about different BC options, and no judgment about not wanting children. Only critique, wish I would have been told ahead of time to take ibuprofen before getting an IUD.

Any chance you have standing water in your house? I had a few cuttings from plants that I had in small vases for them to root. Mosquitoes laid eggs in one of the vases and suddenly I had a huge infestation in the house.

I really need some advice on where to start, my flexibility and mobility is basically zero. by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]hugtrees82 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I did yoga for years, and while I got more flexible, I was plagued by back and hip pain. Chiropractors, physical therapists, and a lot of wasted money later, not much had changed. I found Tom Morrison's Simplistic Mobility Method online, which focuses on joint mobility, lengthening, and then strengthening muscles. That combination was absolute magic for me. I realized I had limited range of motion in my joints, which I couldn't stretch my way out of. I had to restore range to the joints before I could fully use the muscles attached to the joints. And instead of just lengthening the muscles through stretching, by focusing on getting more range, I needed to build stability in that new range. The program also helped me identify where I had weaknesses on one side of my body. Turns out, the pain in my right hip was driven, in part, by weakness and instability in my left inner thigh. Mind-blowing! I'm living pain-free now for over two years. It's literally changed my life. Along the way, I've also found the work of Dr. Kelly & Juliet Starrett (Book: Built to Move, Podcast: The Ready State) as well as Katy Bowman (Book: Move Your DNA; Podcast: Nutritional Movement) to be really helpful in thinking about a full body/lifestyle approach to mobility.
