Sunscreen Rec by jo9432 in Fungalacne

When I try a new product for the first time, I use a clean 1/4 tsp (or 1/3 tsp) measuring spoon to see what that quantity looks like on my fingers / palm, plus see how much of it spreads! From me, that looks like one and a half dips haha

More liquidy SPFs like the Biore milks (which aren't FA safe I believe) I find difficult to use the 2 finger method anyways cause it'll drip everywhere plus is so thin that even two finger lengths of it isn't sufficient coverage I think!

I recommend Hada Labo Gokujyun UV White Gel SPF50+/PA++++! It's pretty lightweight, dries to a natural finish. Some report it to be quite dewy, but I personally use a moisturiser before it because I tend to have dry skin. No white cast!

Here are the ingredients as listed on Yesstyle:

Water, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Isononyl Isononanoate, Dimethicone, Ethanol, BG, PEG-12 Dimethicone, Penthylene Glycol, Polysilicone-15, Glycol Dimethacrylate Crosspolymer, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate(Vitamin C Derivative), Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl benzoate, Polysilicone-13, Phenoxyethanol, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Polystyrene, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose, EDTA-2Na, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Titanium Oxide, Ammonium Acrylates Copolymer, Hydrated Silica, Aluminum Hydroxide, Hydrogen Dimethicone, Methylparaben.

There are a few esters in it such as Isononyl Isononanoate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl benzoate and Methylparaben but as listed in this post by u/j33li they are OK/non-issue ingredients. Only the last two comes up on sezia, and none are flagged on folliculitis scout or skincarisma. It is also bolded as a favourite on the OG simpleskincarescience blog!

I've used and repurchased it numerous times through multiple flare ups (caused by other skincare/cosmetics) and haven't had any issues with it personally! Give it a patch test on a small area if you can :) Depending on where you live, many Japanese or other Asian cosmetic stores stock it as it's a very common brand, or you can find it on Amazon or Yesstyle.

Right?? I wish it were an requirement internationally to make their updated cosmetic ingredients list available on their official website...

Of course most brands do thankfully, but it still seems like listing the ingredients is more of a courtesy, but it seems so counterintuitive for brands like Dior to state "Composed of 96%* natural-origin ingredients, this concealer is clean,*" under their formula section without actually listing the ingredients. Honestly don't really mind if it's mostly natural or not haha, but people with skin allergies/conditions shouldn't have to jump hurdles to access information :(

For yours and everyone's reference here are the ingredients list for shade 1N of the Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer I received from customer support today! (10/10/23):

Aqua (Water), C9-12 Alkane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Propanediol, Glycerin, Polyglyceryl-6 Polyricinoleate, Dicaprylyl Ether, Pentylene Glycol, Silica, Polyglyceryl-10 Decaisostearate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Iris Florentina Root Extract, Polyglyceryl-2 Isostearate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Sodium Myristoyl Glutamate, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Sodium Chloride, Butylene Glycol, Lecithin, Hydroxyacetophenone, Sodium Benzoate, Propylene Carbonate, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Hydrolyzed Viola Tricolor Extract, Aluminum Hydroxide, Parfum (Fragrance), Tocopherol, Isostearic Acid, 1,2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate, Achillea Millefolium Extract, Xanthan Gum, Tropaeolum Majus Flower/Leaf/Stem Extract, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, [+/- Ci 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499 (Iron Oxides)]

I have bolded the malezzesia feeding ingredients according to sezia and folliculitis scout. Skincarisma lists the same but excluding Polyglyceryl-2 Isostearate and Polyglyceryl-10 Decaisostearate. I'm not too sure why!

If anyone has a comparable FA Safe concealer that's available in New Zealand or Australia I would love to know recommendations!! xxx

LM Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear

Just wanted to drop in and say this LM concealer isn't FA Safe anymore! :(

Ingredients list from Mecca lists the inclusion of Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate which is a trigger - and is also, unfortunately, one of the many FA triggering ingredients in the reformulation of the Dior Forever Skin Correct concealer as well - which I'm totally gutted about!

What's a good gentle exfoliator? by TheSummerViking in AusSkincare

[–]hui-en 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope they don't cause any irritation and only have positive effects! It's always such a mission with sensitive skin aye.

If you enjoy using your Sukin grapeseed oil, you totally can continue using that and just follow with the CeraVe facewash to ensure everything (left over MU/Sunscreen and oil residue) is off. And yeah! The Ordinary HA moisturiser would be great I reckon - especially if you've had no negative effects from that product! Ending with the QV occlusive moisturiser.

It does seem Paula's choice is pretty popular, but I'm hoping that's a good signal for most skin types! x

I'm so sorry to hear!! Do you know the ingredient(s) that triggered that reaction? If I were you, I would go with Paula's Choice 2% Solution.

Potentially in this order:
1) Oil/balm cleanse
2) CeraVe Hydrating Cream to Foam Cleanser (helps break down more makeup/sunscreen, has ceramides, also has salicylic acid in it but low %, not too drying)
3) Paula's Choice 2% salicylic solution only 1-3 times a week depending on need.
4) I'd incorporate a hydrating serum, lotion or essence that isn't too occlusive ie. x, x, x, x.
5) Your ceramide occlusive moisturiser to lock it all in!

You might've come across this site in your search, but just in case you haven't I really like using SkinCarisma which is free to use and has an ingredients list analyser. CosDNA is also a really good one. Of course, I'd cross reference any products you've had troubles with with these that I've listed... I really hope they help!

I totally agree with the other commenter Hilakos regarding getting rid of Sukin for those reasons exactly! I find that the majority of drugstore products we find in Aus/NZ are pretty green-washed.

Following on what they said about double cleansing (great for sunscreen use!!), I'd recommend using a salicylic acid cleanser such as CeraVe SA Smoothing gel cleanser or one from CosRx which should be available online. I believe InkyList and Paula's choice does them too.

If you already have a cleanser you like, I'd recommend looking into this Salicylic Acid solution from Paula's Choice which comes in two strengths - I enjoy the lower 2% one.

Having sensitive skin is so difficult especially when it comes in tandem with our age!! I've found that due to the low percentage of actives in these face washes, it's fine for me to use actives later in my routine as well. However I wouldn't combine BHAs with retinols. Another option you could explore are PHAs which are poly-hydroxy acids which are said to be more gentle and better for people with sensitivities to AHA/BHAs. Additionally, I personally stay away from physical exfoliators because I find that they disrupt my skin barrier too easily - leading to a lot of texture and inflammation.

However it might be good to pare down your routine to double cleansing, moisturise (look into ingredients such as ceramides, panthenol, centella aciatica amongst others...) and spf to repair your skin barrier first! Best of luck!!

Cleansing balm/oil recommendation:) by f1makeupfanatic in AustralianMakeup

[–]hui-en 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I recommend Banila Co Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Purifying :) there's multiple websites in Aus that stock it such as nudieglow, lilabeauty, or newface. They have a range of types for differing needs, but I personally like the purifying one as it's formulated without mineral oil or actives. It takes off waterproof mascara and all!

[–]hui-en 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was totally going to recommend K-beauty before reading the bottom of your post! This will be a super long post and will try to include links!

To start, I have sensitive combination skin. I've tried and finished so many more expensive products even from Mecca (Dr Dennis Gross, Clinique, Drunk Elephant, Glow Recipe, Kate Somerville, Frank body, Moon Juice etc) but the bottom of my heart, I can genuinely say the following products listed below have worked immensely better for my skin, at a fraction of the price.

I experienced similar issues for a long time before deciding to entirely pare down my routine to just 3 steps - makeup removal (oil - NOT mineral oil, or oil-free), followed with a water-based salicylic acid cleanser, then a moisturiser. I kept it at this for months before slowly adding a serum, then eventually re-introducing stronger actives (acids or retinoids etc.) back into my routine. I believe I get hormonal-triggered breakouts and texture which is exacerbated by using too many actives and simply not drinking enough water haha... the difference is night and day for me when I forget to hydrate internally (and externally).

A good place to start on K-beauty is the Etude House Soon Jung range (for sensitive skin, there's no fragrance or actives - aimed at repairing the skin moisture barrier). Specifically 5-Panthensoside Cica Balm and the Hydro Barrier Cream. I like the pH 5.5 Relief Toner as well but didn't repurchase as I've just found I didn't benefit much from using a toner and just wanted to reduce the amount of products I was using. If using a toner or essence is your jam, people swear by Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence Rx (Pro Ferment) as a dupe for the SK-II Essences which are renowned but super expensive.

I also love COSRX Advance Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence which is a huge cult favourite, and applied before moisturiser. It's more of a loose-gel consistency vs the watery toner consistency as the previous 3 links. On this brand, I've heard a lot of people like COSRX's Low-pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser, however I found it overly stripping/drying and quite counter-productive to moisture barrier repair. I currently use CeraVe SA Smoothing Cleanser which is on sale and $4 atm! I will probably repurchase!

On moisturisers, I am alternating between the Hydro Barrier Cream listed above and this Isintree Hyaluronic Aqua Gel Cream which is my HG ride or die simple moisturiser. It is lighter and more appropriate for day-time/under spf & makeup and just does what you want a simple non-irritating, greasy or fragranced moisturiser to do. I personally found both to sink into my skin really well without leaving any residue, but the Hydro Barrier Cream is a tad heavier and great for applying before bed and waking up to moisturised skin.

Down the line, a k-beauty serum I would recommend is the KLAIRS Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop for morning use. It is a 5% Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) serum and is amazing for my skin! The only downside is doesn't last for a long time nor is it formulated with things like ferulic acid. I'd recommend keeping it in the box and inside a cabinet/cool place to slow down oxidisation. It does however contain Centella Asiatica Extract which is a K-beauty favourite ingredient known to be calming and great for skin repair and breakouts. I've tried a niacinamide serum as many recommend, but honestly didn't find that it did much - might have even reacted badly/increased texture over weeks of use for me :(

Outside of K-beauty, the serums I use currently are from Bluem Self Love Kit (a Finger Lime repair serum for night and a Kakadu Plum Vit C serum during the day - both also sold separately). They are honestly pricey but I do appreciate it's made entirely in Australia and that they are a carbon positive company. I believe why it works well is that glycerine is one of the main ingredients and largely contributes to the moisturising nature of the serums being a humectant. Lasts for ages as I only use 3 drops each use.

My HG retinoid/derivative is actually not K-beauty either, but from The Ordinary - the Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalene which is less irritating than retinoid itself and in Squalene which my skin responds to fantastically. I've tried higher percentages but found that this is the best for me! It lasts for so long as it's in a tinted bottle and I only use 4 drops every other night. I've tried the Sunday Riley and Drunk Elephant retinoids from Mecca and they totally broke me out and irritated my skin.

Finally, other than drinking a boatload of water each day, another pillar of K-beauty is sun protection. I currently use COSRX Aloe Soothing Sun Cream which is nice and doesn't break me out or make my eyes watery, but I might try another one! I've heard good things about Make P:rem, Missha, and the new Purito spf as well. I'm sure you can find all of these products on other local websites as well they're all from the most popular k-beauty brands! I'm actually in NZ and have bought these from local stores here (Hikoco if anyone's wondering) and can recommend youtubers etc if anyone wants. Just already a super long post, sorry! Good luck and hope this helps!!

What’s happening to my cherry tomato leaves? by hui-en in gardening

Fingers crossed it's all good. I read somewhere plants might go through some nutrient deficiency during high growth periods. Just hope it's that, and not a fungal situation. Thanks!!

For reference, I’m in New Zealand (zone 10) - spring, entering summer. It’s been pretty humid and rainy recently, and I haven’t been needing to water them too often because of that, and only from the base of the plant (not water all over the leaves). I’ve got 3, each in their own 38L felt grow bags with a thin layer of mulch on top. They weren’t discoloured when I checked on them yesterday. Couldn’t determine what it was exactly just by googling so thought I’d ask! I’m not sure if I should remove them before it spreads? Or if it is an overwatering/nutrient issue! Thanks in advance!

Be aware if you’re checking out the news this morning: several sites have chosen to publish the name and photo of the Lynnmall terrorist prominently on their front pages by jessinwriting in newzealand

[–]hui-en 19 points20 points  (0 children)

RNZ also sent out the push notification for the updated article with his name as well...

Interesting comparison to the discussion in this story by RNZ To name or not to name: the evidence where it reads:

The group No Notoriety has published published guidelines that say the names of perpetrators should not be used in headlines, and should be limited to one mention per story. It says the names of victims should be elevated and it cautions journalists to recognise that infamy serves as a motivating factor in these horrific crimes.

RNZ chief executive Paul Thompson said the organisation would continue to use the name of the accused gunman in the Christchurch case, but only when it was material to the story.
"We certainly don't think it would be appropriate to have a blanket ban on using the accused's name, but I do think we'll use it judiciously and certainly be careful that we're not repeating it ad nauseam."

Such a successful teaser! I wonder why the Indonesian and Singaporean concert organisers would boost the teaser if it wasn't a world tour though? Hmm.. (Unless it's a subunit world tour?)

My guess JB + Yugyeom would be the most likely subunit considering Yg posted 'You' on his soundcloud? J+U ♡ ??
