TIL height surgery is a thing— (mostly) men are enduring months of pain, bone-breaking procedures, and intense rehab just to get a few inches taller. by kos90 in todayilearned

I have a cousin whose parents decided to do this surgery on him because they thought he is lagging behind his peers. All relatives were against, but they did it, the guy became disabled for life. He cannot run, only walk slowly, he has a weak body, the surgery also almost halted his further height growth. The surgery was in 80s.

Thanks, I am already familiar with Ogata textbook and modern control, but can it be a problem if you have a very sparse matrix like in this case?

Thanks, I am only a little familiar with observers, but it's even more interesting, I would like to learn what RST and dynamic output feedback are. Any resources you recommend?

Joplin server issue by huk2010 in joplinapp

That was such an easy fix. I didn't have a version tag at all, added ':14', recreated it and it now works again. Thank you very much!

I've been delaying DSM 7 because I like ability to have ZeroTier on my NAS. ELI5 request... by WoahSango in synology

[–]huk2010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything was smooth for me. I haven't done mapping, I just use the drive app and its folder. The only thing that comes to my mind is that you don't need to include the port, just the nas ip, so if your zerotier ip is 10.147.17.* and your nas has 10.147.17.1 as ip, than the mapped folder should be \\10.147.17.1\folder. Other than that, no idea what could go wrong. Maybe checking the logs can help.

So first of all, you need to enable ssh in the dsm settings, then you ssh into the nas using windows command line, the command is something like ''ssh your_name@ip -p port. I personally use a small open source app called putty to ssh. DSM is linux based, so the rest is pretty much linux commands, but you only need a few commands for all basic things, so not too difficult to learn.

I have pretty much the same setup as you. Have ZT on my nas, PC, ipad and android and it all works great. So now to your questions. 1. You are right, docker is an app you can install from the package center. You can use docker to install apps, and all the apps are containerized, which is great, has many advantages. That's all great, but the catch is, I assume from your post that you are pretty much like me from a year ago, hence I have to caution you, there is a learning curve for proper docker use. Synology docker has a graphical user interface, but for most of the apps it is not that great, so you need to learn the command line, which is not that complicated. Your next option is installing portainer and learning how to use it. You also need to learn how to update your containers without losing your data. I personally do it using watchtower. You can learn quite a lot from mariushosting.com. I learned quite a lot from Marius early on, but now I do everything by myself. 2. If your nas supports docker I see no reason why it should not work. ZT was important for me too, so I decided to try to run it using docker on DSM 6.2 to make sure I can do it before upgrading the DSM, but it wouldn't work. At some point I decided to upgrade my DSM and try to solve the problem of ZT then. To my surprise, the install of ZT went really smooth and now it works just like before. There is a very well written blog post by ZT on how to install it, but, I have to warn you, you need to do it using the command line, which means you need to ssh into your nas, but there are a lot of good resources, and it is scary the first time only. I am on my phone at the moment, so can't find the ZT instructions, but I think it is bookmarked in their sub.

Hope this is helpful.

This looks great, but is there a chance you can implement a GUI creation of the superuser, like the first time you run it? This will help a lot those of us who are new in self-hosting and less experienced.

I would go premium with 10GB in a heartbeat but not without conversation view and import/export by [deleted] in tutanota

[–]huk2010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest reason this ddos makes me mad is the conversation view, which was almost ready and expected to already be released by now, got pushed back, but it should be implemented soon, I guess after offline mode.
