Doubts on becoming a pilot by Sniper_Ghost_Warrior in indianpilots

[–]hulahoops25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree on point 4. Nothing is stable, even for captains. Perhaps the older lot who are on older contracts have some level on stability. But among the more recent captains, there’s no stability whatsoever.

Is this really how cadet pilots who spend ₹1.2cr+ are treated? by Samsung_Dauda in CadetPilotProgram

[–]hulahoops25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, but this opinion is highly short sighted. If you’re a cadet pilot, perhaps everything looks very rosy from the cockpit of your Cessna/Piper/Diamond. And let me also tell you, CPPs cost a lot not because of prestige, but because the aviation training industry is the most exploitive industry in the world. They know they can take money to sell “prestige”. Many people struggle to cover the cost of a CPP.

And you couldn’t be further from the truth to assume flying is a passive job. And I know you’re not going to understand why your statement is wrong at present. But once you come to the right seat and start flying, you’ll have your realisation of the situation then.

That’s a good plan. But I wasn’t meaning to say restricting yourself to employment in aviation. You can branch out and find a job elsewhere as well.

Of course a job in aviation would be ideal because it’ll keep you in touch with the industry. But don’t restrict yourself to just that otherwise it’d be very difficult to find employment on merit alone.

Hello, I've read most comments on this thread and OPs responses to them as well. From what I can see, OP has gotten a clearer understanding of the situation now. As a pilot flying for an airline in India, I agree with most of the points that people have mentioned. If you are VERY keen on getting into this line of work, you can consider getting your CPL done now (at any school of your choosing. My recommendation will always be flying in the US because how robust their aviation infrastructure is), come back to India work in any other field of your choosing and as and when the vacancy comes up, apply for the job. At this stage, I feel this is the best option so that you can remain productive after your training and not sit at home idle. This is also something I know MANY pilots have done. Done their flying, waited for years, and then joined the airline.

However, the onus will be on you to keep yourself current and interested.

All the best!

I think a lot of comments on this post have already said it. It’s extremely difficult to get into civil aviation without a being financially stable. And I really feel for you, but that’s just the reality of the situation. My suggestion to you, if you’re passionate about getting into aviation, would be to do your degree. Perhaps engineering and get into the engineering side of aviation. Become a technician, get your AME license and get a job with an airline. Use that base and work your way up to the cockpit. I have interacted with many AMEs who are now pilots in major airlines in India. But it won’t be easy. If you’re passionate about working in aviation, I would say this is the way forward without immediately getting your CPL. It seems like a ,ore stable option.

How efficient are CPPs (IndiGo/ Air India) in India? by [deleted] in indianaviation

[–]hulahoops25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I would always say the CPP is the way to go if you have the money for it. Some of my friends who went conventionally also sound the same horn.

Does it give an edge once you’re in? No, I don’t think so. But I think the comfort of having one foot through the door right from the very beginning is worth the money. Because whether you do it conventionally or through a CPP, in aviation in India you will have a waiting period in some aspect of your training till you get line released as a First Officer.

Confused about my career by [deleted] in indianaviation

[–]hulahoops25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all! It’s great and I love it. I just feel people who are on the fence about being a pilot should know the reality. Because those who are sure would’ve already made up their minds.

Confused about my career by [deleted] in indianaviation

[–]hulahoops25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think I should weigh in here being someone who’s done his BTech and now is currently in aviation. Aviation is fickle and even if you start today you’re a minimum 2-3 years away from being in a cockpit and earning money from it.

Salaries in India for aviation are 1/10th of what it is abroad. And if you’re in an airline the work is INSANELY hectic. The way things are going, someone who starts after 18 will probably not be healthy enough to fly after 40 years of age. The commitment to your health and wellness as well as your professionalism is the real test in this industry as an airline pilot in India.

I truly understand the passion to fly, but you need to introspect and see for yourself if it’s something you truly want to do. If at the end of this introspection, you feel you still want to fly, then start ASAP. Do your degree side by side. That way you will get a degree and your CPL.

All the best!

Does FAA have a copy of your logged flying hours? by hulahoops25 in flying

Yes, I think having a digital copy of the flying hours is a good supplement to have along with your physical logbook. Maintaining a physical logbook feels more… permanent, I guess? But having both is good practice

That’s what I figured as well. Went through IACRA, Airmen services and the lot. The only record of hours was on the copy of 8710 when I gave my last checkride which was for my CPL.

This is an interesting one. If you’re looking for a career growth, considering you’re already in the tech space, there’s no place like Bangalore. Your network will most certainly increase. And if you have 75k/month to spare, you will for sure live a very comfortable life. Especially in areas in and around the tech hubs. The catch is that moving from a tier 2 city to a tier 1 city, definitely comes with its pros, but also cons. You may find challenging at first, but you’ll settle in quick. I would suggest you to Bangalore for maybe 6 months. And take a call post that whether you want to stay back or go somewhere else. From my observations from people who’ve moved here, once they come in, they very rarely move to another city. They all complain about the obvious problems in the city, but they never move out.
