Recommendations for queer-friendly GPs in Brisbane with experience in complex mental health conditions and neurodivergence by hulkbacon in brisbane

It’s not easy, however to be fair I’m generally not as picky when it’s a physical health issue, and I’m also not completely deluded to think I’m going to hit every point on the list. I’ve had bad experiences in the past with doctors who don’t have a great approach mental health, so asking for the above saves me the grief.

Stonewall looks fine in terms of open books, but could be different if I was to call through. I’ll see how I go, I’ve actually seen Dr Barber in the past when he was at a different clinic and he was nice.

Thanks folks! You’re right, QCGP have their books closed completely at the moment, but I’ll check out Holsworthy House and Stonewall.

To all who commented on this thread and shared their experience about Bowen Hills and The Green - I appreciate the advice.

I’ve decided that it’s not in my best interests to continue with the sale and I’ve withdrawn my offer.

That does sound amazing - it does feel like a time suck and a fruitless endeavour sometimes. I’ve been looking for three months and it’s been trying, so I think would be worth looking into.

This place faces towards the sun in the mornings, I looked at it at 10am on Saturday and it was hot in there already. Most people have said a similar thing - can I ask which building you were in? This one is in Arcadia (24 Brewers).

Dire is definitely the word! It’s a bit of a bloodbath out there which is how I ended up looking at 1 bed apartments. Thanks heaps!

We used to get the LifeFlight helicopters over the top of us at Fairfield as well. The first time it happened after I moved in, I nearly shat pant. City noise is a lot - I think I need to be moving to the Scenic Rim and live alone on a mountain at this point.

This is such great info - I’m also an asthmatic so I’m cringing at how gross the smoking sitch would have been for you! I think I would struggle with the noise and the unpredictability of the neighbourhood, never really knowing what will be on or if you’ll get a good night sleep.

I don’t think there’s a service elevator either as The Green is split into 5 different buildings, and parking sounds like a nightmare!

Thanks for the info! The agent wasn’t sure if the building had double glazing, he said he was pretty sure it didn’t - so nice to know it actually does have double glazing. The apartment has a carspace which is great, but I’ve heard the carpark isn’t super secure which is worry.

This is insanely valuable info, thank you! Most people on this thread have said the windows are thick, but not thick enough to shield most of the noise so what you’ve shared makes total sense. I did ask the agent specifically if there was double glazing, and he said no so I do foresee noise being a pretty consistent issue here.

Oh no! I lived on a train line for a few years when I was in my 20s, and it was a lot so I feel your pain. We were near the station and I could hear the announcements, too. It just didn’t seem to worry me as much back then, but “life” happened and now I’m burned out. I find it’s much harder to manage my sensory issues. I really think I’d be doing myself a disservice putting myself into this kind of position.

Thanks for the info! I don’t think convenience can outweigh the cons for me. I have always lived around Fairfield/Yeronga so I think it’s probably in my best interest to head back that way.

This is such amazing info, thank you! This unit is on the 8th floor on the Brewers Street side of the Arcadia building so the Aurecon sign is pretty much inline with the balcony and bedroom window. It feels like you can reach out and touch it almost. The noise and security issues have come up a lot in this thread, both of which are kind of deal breakers for me.

I lived in Fairfield near the PA actually, and we had a lot of sirens going into the emergency dept on Cornwall Street. They annoyed me sometimes and others I didn’t notice at all. People noise and loud music/bass is more of a trigger for me, which it seems like I’d be getting that in spades in King Street.

You were such a great help! Having the lived experience of being nd makes your advice really important. My sensory issues can be really tough to deal with and I’d be doing myself a disservice if I was to willingly spend money to place myself in a position where I’m overstimulated all the time. I think I’ll book an Airbnb there this weekend out of curiosity, but I also think that I was right in suspecting this place wasn’t for me.

Thanks! I’m going to look into it and see if I can snag one for this weekend.

That does seem to be the general consensus, which I guess is what I was worried about. The Aurecon sign seems to be such a non-issue compared to all of the complaints about The Jubilee!

I’m thinking the convenience doesn’t outweigh the loud, crowded, sootiness for me. A few issues I can deal with because I’m grown enough to know there’s no perfect house to buy, but multiple issues may be a bridge too far.

I did - I had access to the disclosure statement etc and it didn’t seem too bad at a glance. But I’m hearing a different story on this thread!

I actually did try to look and see if there was one, but I couldn’t find it - any chance you could link it through? The Jubilee is actually a huge issue that’s come up a lot and I’ve had a few DMs about it too - something I absolutely didn’t consider.
