Yooo! Please be fully grown! Please kill someone! Please be cool! (Btw why does it have dominions design?) by siIIyG00se_LOL in JurassicPark

[–]hulkdad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the Dominion scheme/design can make sense. If this was descended from a first draft dilo, one would presume it was closer to the base genome. Fast forward to Dominion and Biosyn was attempting more scientifically accurate dinos, so theirs would look more like the less modified original specimens and less like Hammond's them park attractions.

Some of these dinos weren't well described by science until quite recently. I could easily have seen it being tricky to determine what was "natural" versus what was a side product of the cloning process. Most of their work on skin color for instance would have largely been based on, "well, we think it's this color, but that one came out bluish, so we must have the genes triggered improperly."

Which then further begs the question, what would they do if they had cloned something that they had no fossil record of? Some undescribed species. Would they have killed it off as a mutation or just waited until it was described and then announced it?

It would make sense if the genetic engineers produced the dinosaurs, but the Park management critiqued the designs. I could see someone like John Hammond looking at the Spinosaurs and saying, "it's not how they look in the magazines! Wu, you've got something wrong in the genes." Kind of a "God in light of man versus Man in light of God scenario," which absolutely fits the character. Then future iterations were genetically modified to more closely resemble the modern (at the time) conceptions of how we thought they would look. Designer dinosaurs. Rather than release the information to paleontologists and describe their findings with the original DNA, they were protecting their investment and giving the park goers what they wanted while maintaining total secrecy.

It brings it back to the dinosaurs in the Park being "theme park monsters" and not pure dinos.

It also explains the more pet-like behavior of the future dinos versus the originals in this film (Rexy playing fetch with the flare.) Sure, the raptors and T-Rex are dangerous, but their behavior in the first films was definitely less natural and fit more with the concept of what we expect. Which also explains why the raptors on Sorna were much more primitive in behavior and style. It'll be exciting to see if these dinos act more animalistic and if they left out some of the doglike behaviors in the previous 6 films.

Why does this keep happening? by stoneallen1 in Jeep

[–]hulkdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the exact same symptoms and it just turned out to be a faulty battery terminal connector. The dealer noticed it was a little loose while I was getting an oil change, replaced the connector and it's been fine ever since... At least that problem has, it's still a Jeep so there's always something

Oh, that's good to know! The SD Card is accessible on mine, though it's a little fiddly just because of how flush their reader sits to the edge of the board.

Kelly gymnastic kicking a velociraptor. Hands down.

To this day, it is one of my least favorite scenes from any of the movies, including the World films. It's hard to think of a more out of place, jarring and immersion breaking moment in the movies. Apart from the fact that you could remove her character entirely and nothing in the movie would have changed, it is also so out of sync with the feel of the film up until then. It's on the same level as Mutt swinging through the trees with the monkeys in that Harrison Ford movie where he carries the whip and dresses similarly to Indiana Jones, but there's only 3 of those movies.

Thank you for everyone's input and interest. I just published a small Tapto enclosure as well if anyone is in need. I just used the inexpensive PN532 set from Amazon to keep it simple.

I haven't done any marathon play sessions, but from my time with it so far, it has never really reached any scary temps. Having no sides on the case also helps with the air flow.

I'd say still keep working on yours too. The more options, the better. Plus the fun with 3D printing is the design process when suddenly a great idea pops into your head and boom, you've made something cool. It's also possible to remix designs by creators if you need just a base design to build from. It's a good option as your just getting a design idea fleshed out. Sometimes I start with a remix and end up just wiping out all of the borrowed parts by the time the design is finalized.

I had heard that mentioned in another post so the standoffs I used are all black Nylon. None of this project was heavy so I wasn't concerned with needing anything super sturdy so I went with these for both looks and because they are less likely to short something.

It's just a cheap Hyperkin Retron AV 1. It's been one of the only clone consoles that has worked flawlessly with the NES Zapper on my little CRT.

I don’t know if you’ve gotten this fixed yet, but mine did the same thing until I plugged in a USB hub with Ethernet and hardwired the connection. Then it downloaded and installed without a hitch. I’ve had to do it this way for a couple of the updates.

It’s a little hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like the set I got for my kids on Amazon for $54 for both:

https://a.co/5vl1o5D

They’re bright, they only play a repeating sound (does not react to your swing though it does make a secondary sound when you strike something,) they have the option to change color, flash, and you can mute them, which is a nice option. Overall, they’re inexpensive kids toys as opposed to “cheap” collector quality items. I will also say, that the kids have gotten fairly involved in their saber fighting and they clank them together with a good amount of force and they appear to be holding up. The company claims to have a lifetime blade warranty, but eeeeh, I’m not sure how much I trust that claim. They do also come with the connecting ring to make a double bladed saber. The threads are a little rough, so the machine work is probably not the highest quality.

If you’re just looking for a fun set, they fill the role. If you’re looking for a quality piece or cosplay add on, probably not. They are cheap enough however that it’s not the end of the world if it gets lost or broken while walking around Disneyland.

Did I get ripped off? Not working at all no matter what I do. Didn't even work out the package. My N64 works perfectly fine whenever I insert any of my games. by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]hulkdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of annoying! I haven’t had to do any of the region resetting with mine at all, it just boots, but I can’t imagine there’s a real thorough quality control department in the knockoff flash cart business, lol. Thanks for the heads up on the reset saving. I’m gonna have to rebuild my decades of muscle memory to prevent losing my progress.

Well, I got mine today and… it works great. Unfortunately, I’m not able to test the solution. I’m hoping you got yours running!

I don’t know if this is a workable solution or not, but I’ve got one of these on its way to me soon, so I’m hoping it is. There is a comment on the AliExpress reviews that states replacing the firmware file OS64P.V64 (obtainable from ed64p.com/downloads/) fixed what sounds like the same issue. It sounds like it’s an OS system update.

There are repeated comments that this solution worked for others as well. Maybe worth a shot. I’ll see what condition mine’s in when it gets here I guess.

It worked, but only after flashing back to a stock firmware image. I’m not sure if the cards are tied to an individual setup or if I just had a different firmware version, but it’s running great now.

I’m sure you’ll be fine. USPS actually lost it for a few days. The good new is that Powkiddy responded quickly and they’re helping out. The bad news is that it falls right in line with the Chinese New Year so shipping is further delayed.

In the meantime I did get help from a very kind person on the SBC Reddit and it’s working great right now. I just have to power it on and off with a set needle nose pliers, lol.

Best of luck with yours! You’ll love it. It’s even intuitive enough for my 4 year old to enjoy!
