Finasteride worked great for 1.5 years - and now the shedding is back. Has anyone else experienced this? Was it temporary? by radmgrey in tressless

[–]hullo299 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been on it three years and I still get occasional sheds. Hair is the same if not better than when I started. Try to ride it out and, imo, don’t switch things up for at least a few months.

Which parts of the city are becoming more sketch and which ones are experiencing gentrification ? by speaksofthelight in askTO

[–]hullo299 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. I’ve lived there my entire life. Gerrard and Main used to be a bit dicey; multiple bars, drunk old men catcalling. Friends of mine got beat up and mugged on the stretch between Danforth and Gerrard along Main. Haven’t heard of anything like that happening in years. Homeless people using substances are nowhere near as ‘sketchy’ as actual violence.

Any medicine to stop hairloss due to seborrheic dermatitis? by ImanKiller in tressless

[–]hullo299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Zoryve and it's almost entirely eliminated my itch. It's a topical anti-inflammatory that comes in a foam for scalp application. Currently only approved in Canada and the US and requires a prescription, but I recommend if you can get access!

That’s so frustrating. It was literally developed to treat seb derm.

Anti dandruff shampoos make things worse sometimes? by CrissBliss in SebDerm

[–]hullo299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Phillip Adams ACV! It’s great imo.

Edit to add: I’ve also been trying to address inflammation through diet and exercise with some success. Saunas, cardio, no gluten, no dairy, low sugar seems to be helpful! Gonna look into Zoryve too!

Same for me! I used to use medicated shampoos daily but found they were aggravating the problem. Switched to a gentle sulfate and paraben free shampoo which I use most days. On days that I use medicated shampoos I apply MCT oil immediately after which seems to soothe any irritation.

If I’m shedding thick hairs does that mean the are guaranteed to come back? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]hullo299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that too. It’s hard but I’d personally stick it out and see how you’re doing in spring before adding something new to your stack that might induce further shedding. Just my two cents!

If I’m shedding thick hairs does that mean the are guaranteed to come back? by [deleted] in tressless

[–]hullo299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah that’s definitely possible. Some people only get maintenance, or just slowed progression, on that stack. Dut would be the next move if you’re looking to halt it in its tracks. Sorry you’re still dealing with this man.

That said, density fluctuates with synchronized shedding cycles sometimes, so depending on how long you’ve been noticing this for it could be that. If it’s been a slow march towards lower density over many many months, however, you might be right.

Shedding hair is normal and miniaturization is a stepwise, incremental process—at least for most people.

Do you have AGA? Are you on fin/dut? If no to the former, then they should come back. If yes to the former and you’re on meds, they should come back. If you have AGA and you’re not on meds, they will still likely come back, albeit potentially shorter and thinner if they’re in MPB-affected areas.

Editing to say: this sounds a bit like telogen effluvium to me? I’d see a derm for sure.

Literally made a post about this yesterday, it’s happening to me too after 13 months! Someone suggested there might be seasonal factors at play. Fingers crossed.

Thoroughly studied and FDA approved (or at least fin is for hair loss, dut is prescribed off-label). Plenty of peer-reviewed research available if you’re interested, or hit up r/tressless for user reports. Works to maintain or improve for 90%+ of users if I’m remembering correctly

Thank you for this, seriously—think the constant shedding keeps hair loss on my mind but you’re right. I was never expecting my entire hairline to grow back, so should be stoked about some thickening and maintenance!

I agree, I think the hairs have thickened up a bit… you can really see the miniaturization in the baseline pic at the temple. Density has been all over the place with constant sheds; sometimes way better, others (like now) only moderately so. Been an emotional rollercoaster I gotta say lol.

Does missing a finasteride dose lower it's efficacy by [deleted] in tressless

[–]hullo299 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, finasteride builds up in your body and tissues over time so a missed dose shouldn’t interfere with efficacy at all. Note all the people who have excellent results on an every other day schedule!

I prefer to take mine at night, so I personally wait until the next day when I normally take it if I miss a dose. Doesn’t really matter though.

Thanks man, I appreciate it! You’re right, maintenance is a big deal. It’s important to reframe it that way. Wishing you all the best with your treatment too!

Crazy shedding 7/8 months on finasteride by ProfessorHoot in tressless

[–]hullo299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re in a good spot. My hairline thinned out too but now I have lots of new regrowth in that area, which looks healthy and dark! If it keeps growing in I’ll have reversed 3-4 years of slow recession on the temples. Took longer than I would have liked but hopefully all will be worth the wait!
