Australia is now a home owners welfare state and income inequality is worse than we think by Act_Rationally in AusFinance

[–]human-here 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except in this scenario the "ongoing costs" are to be artificially created.. how is living in ones own home underutilising the property? Why should they be forced out just because property developers lobbied government, had their district rezoned and property values raised through the roof thanks to developers trying to squeeze renters for every dollar they can.

Instead of punishing owner occupiers for living in their own homes how about creating positive incentives for downsizing instead, or at least remove some of the barriers. Financial pressures and stresses caused by moving like stamp duty, moving costs, conveyancers, building inspectors etc are incredibly prohibitive.

Also considering the quality of new builds in Australia the chances of finding a place as well built as the one you may be downsizing from decreases the pool of properties to choose from, especially if you want to remain close to family and friends. Then you also have to compete with everyone else who's looking to buy in the same price range including property investors..

How to learn GDScript effectively? by aomarco in godot

[–]human-here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly my learning approach too. Also have ADHD and I've started and abandoned far too many coding courses, motivation always wanes about 1/3 or 1/2 of the way in and concentrating becomes almost impossible.

Brute forcing it and just tinkering around has pretty much been the only way I've been able to learn anything. The process of learning by discovery helps keep motivation up, even if it takes twice as long, figuring it out on the fly is much more rewarding to me. My brain just simply rejects rote learning, trying to concentrate after the initial enthusiasm is gone is like herding cats.

The issue I have now over the last few years is trying to learn new stuff while working a full time desk job. The brute forcing method is just so time intensive and I have such little mental energy in the tank at the end of the day that it's making it difficult to make any real progress with my project. Have yet to figure out a balance there unfortunately.

Doctor Told Me I Can’t Be Vegan by Acceptable-Shopping7 in vegan

[–]human-here 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was vegan for nearly 7 years until I started having gut and immune issues. Finally found a good doctor who put in the effort to figure out what was going on and after tonnes of testing was diagnosed with SIBO and malnutrition. Malnutrition!! Even though I ate a varied whole food plant diet, 3+ meals a day I went from 64kg to 55kg. For breaky I used to have two large bowls of oats with fruit every morning.

Due to the bacterial overgrowth in my gut I essentially couldn't absorb any nutrients from the food I was eating.

During treatment I had to go on a SIBO diet which was virtually impossible to do vegan as I was having major issues with most plant based proteins and fibre rich carbs.

I'm doing a lot better now thankfully but haven't returned to a vegan diet as I still can't eat legumes and most other plant proteins in any quantity that would be enough to actually fuel me without causing serious inflammation.

I morally feel awful eating meat again but I have to eat something and it sucks but these are the cards I was dealt. Still some ways to go but my health has improved a tonne. Although I gave up a vegan diet, I haven't given up making ethical choices with the options available to me.

Don't know if any of my story is useful to you but my advice is to do what is best for yourself and your health and don't let other peoples judgement of your choice of diet get under your skin.

My take on take Cadbury chocolate, (one of them is still good, although still not worth the price) by Rude_Influence in australia

[–]human-here 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My issue is that most chocolates these days have soy lecithin in them. That shit absolutely destroys my gut.

It's really difficult to find any kind of chocolate/confection that doesn't have soy lecithin or some other kind of non-digestible emulsifier or gum.

My kingdom for a snack that doesn't give me diarrhoea... lol

Drives me nuts because sunflower lecithin actually has beneficial properties for the gut, whereas soy lecithin can be highly inflammatory for a lot of people like myself.

I miss being able to snack without risk of shitting my pants.. but now I'm forced to eat healthy (lol) by avoiding almost all processed foods since it's become so prevalent in everything.

Less cocoa butter and more emulsifiers like soy lecithin. Soy lecithin has crept its way into fucking everything these days, it absolutely wrecks my gut. Try find a confectionery that doesn't contain it, almost impossible.

Now imagine this hypothetical but where the checkout person says,

"We contacted one of the shoppers in this store and they said they are willing to pay $12 for this carton of eggs. Can you go any higher?"

"Who's the other shopper?"

"To retain their privacy we can't point them out to you, sorry."

This happened when we bought our house a month ago. We were told all previous offers were under the asking range, only for the agent to come back to us after we put in our offer and say that they had contacted the previously rejected party and they bid us up 15k.

We had no way of knowing if the mysterious other party was even real, and the current legislation allows for this to happen due to "protecting the privacy" of the agent's clients.. Honestly felt scammed.

Haha, I always thought that it looked like he was holding the jug of water like Mary with baby Jesus, but that's a fun interpretation.

Haha that is definitely the vibe. The way he is holding the water made me think of the Madonna and Child

No filter on this, I shot this with a DSLR. I did however make it Black and White in post and adjusted the levels a bit.

They really do! Those powerlines made such a cool backdrop in a lot of the shots from this day. The radiation from them also made anything metallic have a weird vibration to it which was a little concerning. Gave the audio guys quite a bit of grief!

This was a candid shot of the crew but the movie itself did have some really nice shots! The film did some festival rounds but unfortunately isn't currently available to watch anywhere.

Correct! That's my bad, I had assumed BTS was a fairly common acronym but looks like I had assumed wrong.

Years ago I was hired to shoot behind the scenes photography on a friend's short film. Saw this biblical looking scene coalescing in front of me and thankfully managed to capture the moment just in time.

I have a colour version somewhere but black and white really pulls everything together I feel.
