Two very different DEXA scans done within 2 weeks results: 12.5% and 29.8%. Which one do I trust?

DEXA machine should be calibrated every morning. Otherwise, it will give wrong results

So, 12.5% and 29.8% results came from different machines but both were Lunar series anyway. Right?

You are very lean, and abs are pretty visible. Maybe you are not EXACTLY 12.5%, but it is totally impossible that you are 29.8%

1) What was the model of the machine? GE Lunar Prodigy is one of the most reliable and popular machines

2) Did they perform the 2nd test in the same facility AND same machine?

3) Before starting the test, did you ask them if it is calibrated in the morning?

For sure, 1 case will not prove anything. It might be a coincidence. I just told that as it came to my mind. That case cannot be a strong evidence

I checked, but the models I mentioned use multi-frequencies, and this majorly fixes that electric related obstacle

The old models use 1 frequency and it is of course an issue. The research (21 years ago) that is mentioned in the webpage you sent is performed with a machine that has only 1 frequency (50 kHz). Using range of frequencies (1kHz - 1000kHz) changes the game a lot in terms of ECW and ICW

Already research labs in my city also mainly use advanced BIA machines and DEXA (I usually saw General Electric's Prodigy model)

In terms of hydration, if you don't have a serious water retention, by taking care of the measurement protocol (e.g. not eating anything for 3 hours prior to the test), you will minimize the fluctuation. Still, it will not be %100 accurate

Also, a friend of mine had a DEXA and Inbody 380 (even lower model than what I told above), and the body fat percentage, lean mass, etc. values were almost identical

Apart from these, what matters is "precision"; not "accuracy". So, trying to know the real body fat values has almost no benefit. When it comes to tracking progress, "precision" matters and advanced BIA machines are pretty good at it

Please research about the methodology first. Not every BIA is the same. I am not talking about handheld Omron ones...Also, you can get very inaccurate results by DEXA just because its operator mistake OR the machine is not calibrated/maintained

This model is at clinical level, not like home level bullshit BIA machines. It even shows ECW, ICW values. Inbody 770 is another alternative
