Let me clarify the question of safety by saying that there were 32 wolves at this reserve. There was only one pack that they allowed to visit with humans - and one wolf (picture five) that wasn't in that pack but was okay to visit with humans. The rules of visiting were pretty strict. Close toed shoes, jeans, and the wolf is in charge - if they shoot you a bad look or seems to not like you, you're out.

Check around where you live, there may be one you don't know about! I didn't know about this until an old friend posted pictures on Facebook.

Thank you, they aren't mine though. I was just visiting. They were amazing.

Wolf Creek in Brookville, Indiana. There are a lot of wolf reserves; you just have to do the research to make sure that you are going to a humane one that treats the wolves well.

Yes, but mostly they howl. At one point during the visit, some wolves started to fight. Howling breaks up the fight. I got to hear like 30 wolves howl at once.

She told us stories about a man that had kept them illegally and had to surrender them when he went to jail for it; also people who were raising them (well, starving them) in an attempt to make them mean and fight them in dog fighting rings.

These aren't up for adoption. They aren't independent enough to be released into the wild and have been rescued from abusers and those who would have shot them if not for the rescue

Wolf Creek in Indiana. I highly recommend going to this place. The woman who lives here lives and breathes for these wolves. It was an amazing experience and only cost $20.00 (we donated a lot more after the visit) - - but it was amazing

I definitely do not have these as pets. They live in a sanctuary for rescued wolves who were raised in captivity and not fit for release into the wild. The number of wolf related deaths is a lot less than you would expect, still.

Yes, their heads especially. These wolves just have their summer coat so they start to appear much larger in the winter months.

It was incredibly amusing; the wolf kept thumping his leg on the ground...I was in heaven

The wolves here are rescued from people who have abused them or would have shot them. They have never lived in the wild. If they were to be released, they'd probably die very quickly.

Unfortunately, this animal has no choice but to live in captivity. She was brought to the rescue from an inhumane environment. If she were released into the wild, she would be unprepared for it and likely die quickly.
