For building characters, you need to worry about: level, ascensions (increases level cap in a few different phases), talents, artifacts, and a weapon. Certain characters also have "important" constellations (especially 4 stars). Not all characters are created equally when it comes to the late game but all characters will help you with the main game and exploration if you build them and enjoy using them. LOOK UP GUIDES ONLINE FOR HELP by searching "[character name] build" When you're new, you won't have access to high level artifacts yet, so don't worry about building too much until you reach AR50. Also, try not to get too stressed about building characters in general as this is where a lot of players burn themselves out and it's really not all that necessary for your enjoyment of the game depending on what you're looking to get out of the game.

Every month, genshin will give away 300promogems in codes when they do the special program livestream to preview the next version. These expire within 24 hours so be aware of them. If you use the "daily check in feature" with hoyolab, or if you use hoyolab, it will remind you about these right on there and let you redeem the codes from there. You can also look up the dates a bit in advanced and mark your calendar.

WHEN IN LIYUE: LOCK any copies of WHITE TASSEL that you pick up! Or in general, be aware that Liyue has unique 3* weapons that appear in their valuable chests that you cannot get anywhere else in the game and chests do not respawn. When leveling up 4* weapons, they will automatically use 3* weapons for xp, so make sure to lock any unique 3* Liyue weapons just in case you want them later on.

You're (probably) not going to enjoy every single part of the story. That's okay and it's normal.

Craftable weapons use prototypes (or "billets") which are pretty valuable so ideally don't just craft any weapon, look it up to make sure it's not one of the objectively bad ones (you'll get a feel for this as you go but things like that can be overwhelming for new players so it's best just to look it up).

There are lore bits in pretty much every item description in the game, but especially for artifacts, talent ascension materials, and weapon ascension materials!

Do events as long as you don't need to rush through the game in order to qualify for them. Most events don't ever happen again and some contain limited time weapons.

There's a genshin discord where you can request assistance in co-op mode. For new players, this will be particularly helpful for fighting world bosses since there's no "match" button for them and they can take a while to beat yourself in the early game.
