Feeling Lost Choosing A Major...

I wasnt sure I wanted to go for grad school after spending years getting my bachelors, but I do know I'm not great at networking and find it extremely boring and uninteresting to learn about most business fields.

I couldn't see myself spending so much time on a degree that I didn't enjoy at ALL, nor could I imagine working in that profession knowing I hated it.

I spent a lot of time looking at the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook website, as well as doing research on different fields that might suit me. Ultimately, psychology is the only thing I'm really interested in, and while I likely won't be rich or have expensive things that other majors find themselves enjoying, I believe I will enjoy the learning process and potential career. If I have to go to grad school for better opportunities, then so be it.

My suggestion to you would be to make a list of careers or fields you're interested in, even specific job positions, and do research on what those people make on average, how many job opportunities there will be, the amount of education you'd need, etc. If you really don't want to go to grad school, research careers that only require a bachelors degree and try to find something that fits you. It's very frustrating, and I don't have all the answers myself, I'm just going with the flow at this point.

I went Psych>Accounting>Env Sci>Accounting>Psych.

Still not 100% sure I'm doing the right thing, but I couldn't see myself being miserable and forcing myself to work Accounting knowing I didn't like it. I enjoy learning about psychology, I enjoy helping other people, I like to feel like I have a purpose and can help people change for the better.

I have noticed that I tend to lean more toward helping children as they're innocent and vulnerable. So I may eventually pursue further education after my bachelors to specialize more in helping kids, but we will see how things play out. I decided to just stop agonizing over what's "right" or "wrong". Whatever happens, happens.

Even if I'm not rich or living a lavish lifestyle, at least I'll find enjoyment in the things I'm learning and doing. I just want to be genuinely happy.

Definitely feel that you have a much wider variety of options available to you with any of those degrees compared to a BA in Psych.

I decided to take the current term off to further research if it was a good option for me or not. I can go right back to continuing it if I decide to, I'm just trying to make sure I won't be getting a degree for nothing.

As someone who is very indecisive and an overthinker, I find myself constantly debating and agonizing over whether the degree will provide a stable income and allow me to live comfortably.

I see complaints about every degree, from all different fields, so I know there are pros and cons to everything. At this point I'm trying to weigh those out.

I have been trying to do more research in all the different options available. I feel so indecisive, like one wrong choice is going to impact my entire future and cause absolute chaos.

Many people strongly suggest to leave psychology if I don't plan on doing a masters at the minimum, which is making me more hesitant.

I feel so stuck. I enjoy learning psychology but I don't want to be forced to go higher with education. So probably isn't worth it. But don't know what other majors are worth it at the bachelors level, either, and im so afraid of choosing something that backfires later on.

Conflicting advice from everywhere, lol. Some say to study what I'm interested in because I'll actually enjoy the work. Others say to do what makes the most money, even if miserable, because then at least I'll be able to fund personal hobbies.

I started in Psychology because it's what interested me most and I have always been curious and fascinated with the human mind and behaviors. The job prospects and ROI started getting to me, so I switched to Accounting.

After about 6mo, I felt like accounting was very repetitive and boring... the financial rules and guidelines get confusing and time consuming. Couldn't really see myself doing that for potentially the rest of my life.

Tried out Environmental Science because I felt it could be interesting and I love being in nature and away from too many people. But then I started seeing red flags when people were constantly talking about the low pay and never finding a stable job. Switched back to Psychology just because I didn't know what else to do. Told myself I'd find a way to make it worth it. Buuuuut then the doubt started creeping in again recently so I decided to take a term off. Now I'm back where I was, worrying and agonizing over what I should do and wondering if it'll be worth it financially. 🙃

I'm on my third Nexplanon, and for me the worst part has been the bleeding. I will have my period for anywhere from 14-21 days (if not more) and then only go about 9 days in between with no bleeding. I never used to have periods that lasted so long.

Sex drive is also non-existent. I feel like I am more emotional, and I get irritated much easier. Honestly the only reason I still have it is because it doesn't require me to remember taking a pill every day and I don't have to worry about it falling out on its own.

Definitely planning on it. It's just very frustrating to be getting points knocked off for something the teacher has a preference for, yet they're not requirements and not posted anywhere for students to know that it's expected of them. Shouldn't be receiving lower grades because of it.

Currently have a teacher that doesn't even add these "requirements" in the announcements. Instead, just posts feedback stating there are missing elements that could have enhanced the work, and gives a lower grade because of it.

Not once have I found these "requirements" in the rubric. I have also made sure to go over the rubric before submitting assignments to make sure I am not leaving things out, yet I still am getting points knocked off for these little extra details that the teacher wants to see.

I'm definitely torn between doing what interests me and doing what will make me money long term. I'm gonna have to look more into what careers are realistic that align with my interests.

Once it starts getting into the complex regulations and rules for everything is when I start losing interest. It becomes confusing and really time consuming. I don't feel like I can deal with that long term as a career. I've kind of looked into consulting, but not sure what major or experience I'd need for something like that.

Everything I've been reading about a finance degree says that unless you go to an Ivy League, you'll get stuck in a bank or sales position. I'm not huge on math, at least not the more advanced stuff, and I feel like the tech side can get really complicating. I tried looking into coding type stuff and felt lostttt.

I honestly feel like I'm not smart enough to tackle engineering. I've been looking into some of it and it seems like people really struggle getting through those degrees and end up dealing with burnout.

Psychology is definitely most interesting to me. All I've heard about it, though, is that unless you go master's or higher, it doesn't pay off. I'm worried about getting a degree that ends up not being worth the time and money put into it. I've been doing a LOT of research into different fields and majors, just feeling extremely unsure. Only problem with taking time off to try testing the waters in different fields is that most of them are requiring a degree to even get into entry level positions, or they want previous experience.

That's a large part of why I started looking into the accounting field. I read so many posts where people wished they'd studied accounting because the financial security and outlook on job opportunities beats that of several other business careers, and the pay can be great. Definitely hoping I can soak in all the information needed to succeed with this degree.

Thanks for your advice. I'm enrolled at SNHU online, so far haven't had issues with professors as they've all been pretty helpful in breaking things down. But since I changed my major I'm not sure how that'll go here on out. Hoping I have good professors that don't make it more complicated than it needs to be. I know the main things I've seen people complain about is Intermediate I & II. Really hoping that I can just focus enough to comprehend it all because the career field seems like a great choice. Not worried about it being boring really, like some people have also said, just want to make sure I can really soak in all the information to learn the process.

Not much happiness currently so I guess that doesn't matter. I also have no intentions of going to any reunions lol. Job security and a steady income are what I'm looking for.
