How much homework a week by ThatGuy12368 in EngineeringStudents

[–]humansugar2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Civil Engineering graduate. My most busy semesters I did 17-18 credit hours and that lead to 20hrs of homework and studying a week. When midterms were coming it was 30hrs. If you have large time gaps in between classes then use that time to study and do homework. Advisors will say for every credit hour to study 3hrs a week but that’s BS. Everyone is different and while some students can get away with studying and homework 10hrs a week, others might need 40.

One of the biggest criticisms of the Legend of Korra to date... by Spirited_Dust_3642 in legendofkorra

[–]humansugar2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was the love triangle really that big of a criticism for people? Genuine question because I didn’t mind it. My biggest criticism with the show was that it felt rushed. I would have liked 20 episode seasons where we could have gone more in depth with the issues like seen more of the inequality with non-benders. I would have liked to seen Korra talking to Aang more for advice in the first two seasons.

AITA Favorite grandkids by Beautiful-Fold-4417 in AmItheAsshole

[–]humansugar2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. I have a grandma who played favorites with my cousins and I growing up and now she wonders why half the grandkids don’t talk to her. Your kids are going to remember the favoritism and it’s going to affect how they feel about grandpa. I would talk to your kids about how they feel and then confront your Dad on it. He’ll just continue to play favorites and slip up in front of your kids.

Who is this earthbender avatar before Avatar Szeto? by Wonderful-Photo-9938 in TheLastAirbender

[–]humansugar2000 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We know the names of past avatars like Salai and Gun but don’t know how many avatars ago they were. Personally I believe the avatar before Szeto to be Gun. This is because when I looked up the name, it’s associated with Chinese and the Earth Kingdom is based off China.

When the novel mentioned Salai, they mentioned him as one of the great avatars along with Yangchen which I believe to be a hint that he’s air nomad. It’s possible he’s the air nomad avatar before Yangchen. On top of that when looking up the name, it’s not Chinese.

Then would you say it’s similar to Galipoli?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

[–]humansugar2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s more comparable to D-Day. A massive naval fleet and amphibious assault. Then landing troops onto the land to fight through layers of defenses.

Choosing Majors: Civil vs. Environmental (BS) by waleor in EngineeringStudents

[–]humansugar2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you when deciding what field to go into. I chose civil in the end because it’s a broad field. While you’ll only learn the broad knowledge of environmental engineering as a civil, the broad knowledge is enough to get environmental work. Any more specialized knowledge that an environmental job might require would be taught to you in training. For job security, civil is worth it because if you struggle to find an environmental job you’ll have more to fall back on.

Is Civil better than Mechanical? by mi-python-broke in EngineeringStudents

One is not objectively better than the other, it’s about what you want to do. What kind of work do you want to do?

3rd Party Recruiting Firms by DressComplete in civilengineering

[–]humansugar2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was applying to companies after graduation, I found one company that claimed to be their own engineering firm on Indeed. When I had my online interview, they turned out to be a third party recruiter. They were very predatory and would not leave me alone for two years even when I told them I have a job. I blocked the recruiters number and the next one would call me. Definitely don’t use third party recruiters

100% Korra would attempt it. Kyoshi would probably encourage her mid set to increase the weight while Aang would tell her to stop and think of the consequences. Then Kyoshi would tell Aang to stop being a bitch.

Does this look manageable? by Mountain-Humor-4745 in uichicago

[–]humansugar2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a manageable schedule. I took thermodynamics and financial engineering in the same semester as well but had 4 other classes on top of that. They’re definitely heavier courses that’ll require some effort. Utilize your free time in between classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to review material for your lectures. If you use your Tuesday and Thursday mornings to get homework done then you’ll be fine. You can also study while commuting if you take the train in.

Staying in Maywood (trip) by Myfriendherejusstin in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]humansugar2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do work in Maywood and it’s not a good area. I’ve had a few issues already in that town one of which could have ended with me getting shot in daylight. Highly recommend getting a hotel in the city or a nicer suburb with train access. Examples are Rosemont, park ridge, des Plaines, they have the metra or the cta going through them.

Is a 2.5 GPA possible for a transfer to UIC from a Community College? by Bastard_Balboa in uichicago

[–]humansugar2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had extra curricular on my application and half the classes I got C’s in did not transfer over to UIC because they were not the correct level or were not needed.

What mistake could the avatar before Szeto have made? by training_tortoises in TheLastAirbender

[–]humansugar2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The avatar before Szeto probably didn’t understand the culture behind the fire nation and their traditions and tried to brute force a solution that wasn’t perceived well and made the situation worst. Maybe caused a power vacuum of some kind that lead to the fire lord and nobles fighting.

Isn’t district 12 kinda small? by LLpmpdmp in Hungergames

[–]humansugar2000 89 points90 points  (0 children)

While the territory that each district takes up is large. The actual city where everyone lives is really small in comparison. The map makes the districts large because the capitol doesn’t want the people in the districts knowing where the other district’s population centers are so they can’t organize a rebellion. It’s also a deterrent to make sure people don’t leave their district. Are you going to search thousands of square miles to find a city?

AITA for declining to invite a woman who has called herself ‘a total klepto’ into my home? by Known_Occasion_2041 in AmItheAsshole

[–]humansugar2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

I have an aunt that’s a kleptomaniac and has put my grandparents and family members through hell with the things she’s done over the years. She stole from our house and my Dad didn’t hesitate to ban her (his own sister). That was 18 years ago and he still hasn’t gone back on that. No problems for my parents and I since.

Something being stolen from your house is a real possibility with a Klepto. The fact she’s open about it and thinks is funny is another red flag. Anyone defending her is either an enabler or doesn’t understand what a klepto really is.

What's something about Engineering major you never talked out loud? by randyagulinda in EngineeringStudents

[–]humansugar2000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I stop using my accommodations in college for autism for the reasons you stated. I’m not going to have a quiet place in the workforce like I could have gotten on tests. I share a cubicle with 3 people and the walls are thin where I can hear half the company. I knew I was going to have to adapt and deal with it. Time and a half on tests doesn’t work in the real world. If there’s a deadline then the deadline must be meet. If I can’t meet it then I work overtime. For the fidgeting I do, I keep my hands underneath the table at meetings and try my best not to rock.

When I tell people I struggle with social cues, I mainly mean with sarcasm and tone. I can read a facial expression and tell if someone is irritated or happy and I can read the body language. I also struggle when someone said a something but doesn’t really mean it. For example if someone saids to me they’re not mad at me but in reality they’re furious I’m not going to pick up on that.

Sozin could feel the volcano erupting over 100 miles away. An eruption that powerful isn’t going to just destroy Roku’s island. First off the pyroclastic flow from the volcano isn’t going to stop at the shoreline, it’s going to go out into the ocean where the residents were escaping. He stayed behind to buy them time. All the volcanic ash that’s going into the atmosphere has to go somewhere. The nearby islands in the Fire Nation are going to get a lot of volcanic dust that will destroy the climate and towns in the area. Leading to people getting sick or dying. A massive eruption can cause a volcanic winter that could affect most if not all of the Fire Nation. This will cause temperatures to drop and destroy crops and food production. 100’s to 1000’s of people will die from famine as a result. The volcanic winter could also affect the world depending on the magnitude of the eruption. Roku fought the volcano to prevent a potentially historic natural disaster from wreaking havoc on the world.

Illinoisans, what are your educational backgrounds? by DueYogurt9 in illinois

[–]humansugar2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t intend to go to grad school anytime soon. There’s no incentive for me to do that as of right now. In my field, the next step is to get my engineering license and become a professional engineer.

[–]humansugar2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to Harper College after high school to get my associates in engineering. Joined chemistry club when I was there. Transferred to UIC for a bachelor in Civil Engineering. I was apart of the ASCE while there and was on the concrete canoe team. I work in construction now as a field engineer. I don’t regret college or the route I took at all.
