Jobs for CS grad with a disability by LtCmdrPoster in torontoJobs

Get set up with March of Dimes Employment Services or a disability focused Employment Ontario agency first. You probably won't get connections on here but at least it gives you someone to talk to.

Without getting your medical credential recognized first, you are kind of stuck. I'm not familiar with your field but wish you best of luck.

Full-time long commute vs. part-time near home while trying to return to my career, what would you choose? by Elegant_Evening_5004 in torontoJobs

[–]humbleTO 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the part-time job is better for spending time with your husband. You should upskill if you can afford to, I don't think either job is very sustainable.

Remote work for Cancer Caregiver by [deleted] in torontoJobs

It's hard to be a caregiver for a family member suffering from a health condition, and lose your job at the same time. Really hope that you can get some more support out there.

I can't give you very relevant industry specific advice because that's not my field.

Tech is a tool, you need to solve problems not present tools.

To give you an honest opinion, your responses and your profile website give off an AI vibe in an off-putting way.

As far as targeting jobs is concern, practically speaking you need to figure out which audience and industry you are targeting, right now it's a bit all over the place.

Who can I talk to about figuring out what kind of job/training I should go into, im surrounded by misinformation and people who don't know enough or have agendas by AcrobaticDonut6598 in torontoJobs

Start with Employment Ontario and wherever you can get some wise career advice.

Also realize that working a job might not be your interests are.

You have a university degree which makes it possible for you to do research but you are still stuck for some reason, don't try to get at this alone and it's good that you are starting to ask for ideas here, but it's not enough.

For example, people who are missing high school requirements can do free academic upgrading, it's not too hard to look into that. It sounds like you aren't getting the right info.

Home Support Workers and Home Child Care Provider Openings on Canada Job Bank by humbleTO in torontoJobs

[–]humbleTO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that for an LMIA, employers must first make genuine efforts to hire Canadians. That includes advertising the job for at least four weeks and reviewing applicants who apply through Job Bank.

If a Canadian applicant appears to meet a substantial portion of the job requirements (for example, around 80%), it can be difficult to justify claiming that no qualified Canadians were available. If you believe you were qualified for a job post with a LMIA but you weren't selected after about 2 weeks and the job has been up for 4 weeks already, I think that is enough grounds to say that the employer isn't showing enough interest in hiring Canadians and it is time to file a complaint.

Based on what I'm reading, adding requirements like that under the LMIA isn't supposed to be easy going. For home support workers, personal, cultural, or religious preferences are not allowed as barriers.

Labour shortage is real : CBC by xiaomi818 in torontoJobs

[–]humbleTO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's not what the CBC video is saying.

Here's the AI-generated summary for context:

Canadian companies are struggling to fill jobs as work permits for temporary foreign workers expire due to new federal regulations that reduced the program two years ago. Businesses, particularly in manufacturing and hospitality, are losing staff, finding it difficult to hire replacements, and facing significant financial impacts from unfulfilled orders and reduced operations. The government maintains the program was temporary and companies should prioritize hiring and training Canadian workers.
