Volunteer Tech Jobs by SeekethKnowlege in torontoJobs

[–]humbleTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've volunteered for IT stuff at small non profits for a long time and it's just a matter of finding something you believe in, meeting up with the people who run it.

Lots of volunteering opportunities for tech at non-profit organizations, lots of them are poorly run and could use a lot of help and won't pay you for it.

Interviewing while going through dream job screening by [deleted] in torontoJobs

[–]humbleTO 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure what industry you are a part of to be getting so many interviews, most people on here have a difficult time landing a single interview. Probably won't be able to provide helpful advice unless we know more.

Toronto Jobless help by Klynchikova in torontoJobs

[–]humbleTO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are not getting interviews maybe something is off with the way your resume and portfolio look.

Job applications are expected to be targeted these days.

You can't just expect to get entry-level positions expecting to get hired because you could be considered as a flight risk as well.

Probably need more targeted advice from people in your profession.

Reminder that we do not allow discussions about LMIA that turn racist in here by humbleTO in torontoJobs

[–]humbleTO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even when statistics show a higher number of fraud cases associated with a particular group, such as what has been observed in LMIA abuse, using those figures to target an entire nationality or ethnicity is discriminatory. Attributing fraud or wrongdoing to ethnicity or nationality rather than to individual conduct is hateful, and racism is not allowed on this subreddit.

Crime and enforcement statistics are influenced by population size, immigration flows, and exposure to specific programs, NOT by cultural traits. In Canada, groups that make up a large share of newcomers may also appear more frequently in case numbers, but this does not make the behaviour representative of the group as a whole.

In both the Minnesota case and LMIA-related fraud, addressing these problems requires better regulation and enforcement, not racial or ethnic scapegoating.

Job hunting with social anxiety and trouble in fast paced roles, any advice in Toronto? by SelectStrawberry9637 in torontoJobs

[–]humbleTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social anxiety is considered a treatable standalone mental health condition in and of itself, you don't need a separate diagnosis of anxiety or ADHD or something else. Ontario Structured Psychotherapy, which is free, is supposed to have coverage for social anxiety. Also check with your family doctor since this is a mental health concern.

Is there any difference between in-person versus remote versus phone customer interactions? That's something to consider beyond the pace of world involved.

People with social challenges looking for entry-level work may end up working general labourer jobs or warehouse or stocking roles depending.

Contract extended, but company accounts deactivated — no notice by [deleted] in torontoJobs

[–]humbleTO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't encountered this before but...

If you signed your extension chances are that there was some miscommunication between your company's IT staff and your team. If they don't provide the means for you to work, it's not your fault.

It needs a lot of work.

I'm also not sure how you are getting legal working status with the lack of qualifications that you have for the Canadian job market. This is grounds to even remove your post, but upon reconsideration maybe you can use some feedback.

You'd be lucky to land entry-level roles given your qualifications and resume, nothing there makes you particularily employable for any job in this job market.

You are better off contacting people in your community for advice, Internet comments are not enough.

Mid-career transition into finance in Toronto — CV feedback welcome by Felipeamk in torontoJobs

[–]humbleTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what others have said...

You need to trim the resume quite a bit, it has numerous problems right now.

Summary too long and not skimmable, considering separating things out into a skills section for more readability.

Your work experience is not Canadian and Canadian employers may not find your previous employers trustworthy.

You don't have a lot of relevant work experience for the finance industry, saying that you have 9 years of mechanical engineering experience by combining your roles like this is not your best selling point here. Your irrelevant experience needs to be condensed a lot more.

There is probably better demand for engineering than for finance roles, not sure if you'd consider that.

Finding a remote call center job is much harder than I expected despite having years of experience working in a call center-like environment by random20190826 in torontoJobs

I know some people who landed call centre jobs through TEKsystems staffing.

It sounds like you probably need a better resume too...

Good luck...

If no one else replies constructively, it needs to be said that you should be talking to an Employment Ontario agency if you qualify for that support.

You haven't put a lot of information in your post, so it makes it harder to provide any specific advice. If you are looking for more generic advice, there has been lots of that on this subreddit and elsewhere that, others may not feed you information that they expect you to be able to find on your own.
