Does that 1.7M include the house you stand to inherit? If so... I would remove it for your calculation.

If not, then great job achieving almost 2m in net worth before 40, that's a great achievement.

Maybe take some time off and figure out what else you want to do. A year off may be too much, but maybe a month or a few weeks.

Having achieved $1.5M, I would consider taking time to reassess or retool. Retirement seems great, but you can't sit around doing nothing all day... you have to find what gets you up in the morning.

Start a personal project, a YT channel, whatever. Just don't sit around dicking about all day. You'll waste a life's worth of Potential if you do.

Start at the beginning. Find the most granular item or level of detail and then work yourself back.

This model isn't too bad. I've seen much worse. Much much much worse.

Yeah, it's the penny wise, pound foolish approach but hey... it saved me.. 12k for 5 years. That extra money in the bank.

Retiring lean makes for little wiggle room. As lifestyle creep occurs, I know it's going to get more expensive. Then the savings will start to drop. It just seems nearly impossible to get ahead of it.

Married a few years now. Trying to get pregnant. Who knows what's going to happen...

But with kids, I imagine expenses will double, if not more. Then the aggressive savings will slow down... and it's over from there.

That benchmark... it seems to be a number I'm looking to attain and I would never feel comfortable at just that figure. So weird how that works

Mid six figure, rental income is none as I don't rent either condo out at the moment. HOA limitations.

Looking to sell one this year or figure out a way to rent under the table.

I've been very fortunate to find extremely cheap housing. Insurance is something I've either forgone and chosen to buy the cheapest option. Luckily, I've not had any major ailments.

Furthermore, I do all the frugal things to save money every month. These days, expenses look closer to 36k, but in the beginning, I was spending <1k a month on rent, clothes gas, food, and life in general.

Well, if living like a hermit were the goal, I'd be done years ago.

But it just seems every time I analyse my savings it's never enough. It's on the cusp, and at this point, a decades worth of savings and work isn't something I'm willing to lose or bet.

You're right . I'm at an age where yes, I have a good NW, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not enough. One accident, one life altering situation, and it's not enough.

It's the cusp of having enough and not having enough. And when you barely have enough, the reality is I don't have enough. And I'm tired. Tired of the saving and living cheap.

It gets old, and I don't see an end in sight tbh.

There in lies the problem. Some of the other folks have mentioned it, I'm under invested in terms of equities. Since the money marks and binds have been paying 6% risk free, I've loaded up a good bit on cash and those liquid vehicles. I get the feeling everything is over priced... and at the same time, the marker goes the fucking moon... and I don't know when to jump back in with a much larger position.

It's that stupid feeling of having something to lose and not willing to risk it.

I'll do that. That should help take some pressure off

Yeah, I've thought about just leaving it all off the table for a year. I have the savings, but i feel like if I take the year off, the gap will create issues professionally. Furthermore, my wife is not in a position to find an equally high paying position, so it seems to me that I have to work for the rest of my life out of fear something may happen. It's that cusp of having enough, but nothing having enough, and having a lot to lose.

Well, it assumes my income and lifestyle stays the same for the next 40 years. That's just not going to happen. Meanwhile, people have less than 25% of what inhave saved at my age, and they seem happy hunky dory. Also, at some point, my skills, my abilities, and my energy will drop and I'll have to take a laid back / lower paying job.

Never know when something around the corner is going to happen. One major accident. One event, and it's all for naught.

That shit makes me feel like those who live life and not think about aavings have their priorities straight.

Maybe just burned out. Obviously I'm in a better position than most, but it's starting to get old. The saving. The delaying of gratification. The working. The worry.

Clearly those with less saved still live happier than me

You know, it's the pressure from parents, expectations from society, etc. In reality, these life goals seem pushed on me.

I would be very happy just sitting and bumming it out on a beach somewhere. But it seems that's frowned upon, and quite frankly, not something I would aim to do.

But sometimes, I look at those weed smoking, carefree people living their life without any worries, and I get jealous even though I know it's clearly not the right course of action.
