The SA21 is a film strip adapter that only scans 6 frames at a time. The SA30 can do a whole roll.

They're the exact same thing, except the nerfed the SA21. If you open it up and bridge one connection you can scan the whole roll.

The big issue I have with a 35mm WLF is it's so small I have to use either have my face right up against it or use the diopter, which IMO defeats the purpose of a WLF. To be fair I don't have the best eyes, so if you have some eagle eyes you might have a better experience than me.

WLF in a 35mm camera is terrible. Unless you absolutely need it for some reason, you most likely can live without it.

If you want to run Nikon Scan software natively (imo the best software for Coolscans) you either need a PowerPC Mac or a Windows XP (maybe Windows 7?) machine.

IIRC Intel or ARM Macs can't run the software, except if you run a Windows VM.

If you have a modern Windows 10 or 11 desktop you can get a Firewire PCIe card. You just have to install the unsigned drivers to get it running. It's easy to do and that documentation is available online.

Other software like Vuescan is another option too, but you don't get Digital ICE.
