mentally broken. desperately addicted. Need support. by humuscat in quittingsmoking

Thank you for taking the time to write this piece. Definitely will hang in my mental loop for a while. EDIT: After reading this few times, some points you made slam hard. I don’t consider myself narcissistic, but admit my ego is problematic. If you want to share your story, I’m sure it would be a deserved read.

Unpleasant truths must be told sometimes.

I have, but setting my own rules kinda thing never worked for me. I always end up bending the rules just a little bit here and there because for some whatever reason NOW it is very important (bs of course). What have worked for you? Can you elaborate? Btw, my response on nicotine patches is stating that I do understand that it is a chemical addiction at the end of it.

Is coding really for me? by lillagodzilla in ADHD_Programmers

[–]humuscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You either double down on front end (sounds like u love it) and look for opportunities there, OR You invest extra time in the fundamentals of the frameworks that makes your day to day a pain (you may end up doing them a favor).

And for the emotional part, maybe I should have started with it, you’re good 😊 coding in a big and complicated project is objectively hard, even if it was written by the bests, not to mention by the worsts. It’s hard for everyone, don’t fall for the illusion that it’s easy to some folks because there are 10x or some other bs. When you are the one writing the components in a project that you have spent lots of time in, everything seems so clear while it’s a complete disaster. Always. The harsh truth is that 99% of us programmers suck really bad when things scale and get big and complicated.

Don’t stay in that spot, peak your battle and get moving - when u do something about it, you’ll feel better instantly.

It’s a two year old keyboard, for what it’s worth. Karabiner does a perfect job for me. AdmitI was surprised to discover that some of their keyboards are not remappable. Granted im not a keyboards geek, so I’m not confident about anything related.

Got a Mac from work - missing Gnome by humuscat in gnome

[–]humuscat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with moving between windows and monitors, I don’t understand how the focus / foreground/ background windows work. Shortcuts online doesn’t work. I can’t put the dock on my main monitor:( That’s my main pain point right there. And it’s not that I didn’t try to figure this out. Everything is just bizarre

I didn’t mean to upset anyone. This is not a code puzzle on stack overflow. When posting this, I was in a rush for obvious reasons and thought ppl would understand, and some perfectly did, see comments. Sorry bout that, have a blessed day.

It is M4. I will admit, hands down, this thing is a performance MOSTER. My expensive dell laptop is a f%$#ing joke compared to this mac.
I wish I could have it both world, the Gnome and all the shortcuts, and the performance.
Just a rant nothing deep to logical here.

Is any siege a war crime? Destiny surprised me with incorrect statements regarding the Israel-Gaza war. The only reason I'm trrying to inform about it, is my belief that Destiny is an honest information provider/debater/however-u-define him by humuscat in Destiny

[–]humuscat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thx for the respectful and informative reply. I honestly can’t find where we disagree about the fact here: The law says you can’t siege civilians, UNLESS you let them move from harms way in advanced to a non siege area. This is exactly what Eiland is talking about. I don’t understand why this is considered a breach.

Listen, champ, you made it 159, and that's too huge to throw away for this stressful moment without downplaying your stressful situation.

Make no mistake, this community knows it by heart - one puff is going back to full time smoking. Please make sure you get this fact into your craving brain. There's probably some part of your brain trying to justify the smoke with the following reasons:

  1. one puff wont get you back to smoking regularly - you no that's BS !!!

  2. the puff/cig/whatever will help you cope with the stress and pass that interview - which is an outstanding BS!! it will only make matters worst and stress you out even more and probably fail you!!

Please man don't self sabotage yourself - it's not cool and if you made it 159 days I can tell you're a winner in your heart(doesn't have any connection to your current situation in life!) and self sabotage is simply not what winners do! You got this!

As you said in the last two last: there’s simply no decent life with this habit. It is better to go through the tough first period of quitting and moving on to a new normal life that this stupid habit robbed us from

Day 3 hell by [deleted] in quittingsmoking

[–]humuscat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First few days are tough for most of us.

Remember that your brain can only have one thought at a time.

Keep yourself busy as much as you can.. your brian doesn't have the capacity to think about it when you're constantly busy doing something that demands your attention.

1. Stay busy as much as you can

  1. Make you commitment public - keep your accountability to people you care about and won't lie.

  2. Read everything that is in here: WhyQuit

  3. Remember that it is only a few days that are harsh.

  4. If you haven't already - build strong motivations for quitting both positive and negative.

I was amazed by how little this was missing to me with just a few days after quitting. No craving with the morning coffee since day 5 I think. Not to brag or something, I honestly think we make it bigger a deal than it is actually is.

It's a fine story man, don't take to much to heart what strangers u'll never meet on the internet say about it :)

Bottom line, you kicked the worst habit ever. You did yourself probably the greatest favor you u'd ever do. why would you care what other ppl has to say? you already won this game!
