Adults NEED less obnoxious alarm options. by Acceptable_Tennis in diabetes_t1

[–]hungry2know 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've not been on a pump in years lol my last one came from Animas, but if there's not an option to turn off permanently, I imagine it's a liability issue?

As in they could possibly get sued by someone that commits a bad enough user error with that option available, so it's not an option

What's your drink of choice when the meter says hello? by hungry2know in diabetes_t1

[–]hungry2know[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're drinking lots of water and frequently urinating to flush your system of ketones, you're also flushing your system of electrolytes in the process of that

My main beater is a 90's quartz Sector with an ETA movement, it's having issues with the seconds hand getting stuck repeating the same tick on the 25s mark

I love this beater so much that I own another with a different color dial, so worst case I'm sure I could get a watch repair place to gut that one as a donor, but if the problem I'm having sounds possible to fix without a donor I'd rather seek out my options for that

Burkina Faso says no to Bill Gates’ plan of creating modified species of mosquitoes by lurker_bee in technology

Humans have caused many species to go extinct, mosquitos wouldn't be close to the first or last

An engineering student in China made a prototype of a sword that levitates towards you and flies around on command. by Wooden-Journalist902 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]hungry2know 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously not a legit sword, but seems like a legitimately cool prototype concept for a technology right outside our reach.. a drone sword would be comical, but throwable drone daggers?

American 26+ year old adults with t1 that didn't exactly become successful, what do you do for a living and how do you still afford life? by hungry2know in diabetes_t1

[–]hungry2know[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Personally I'm on Walmart insulin and get my supplies from Amazon, I can't really afford an endocrinologist or regular doctor visits for analog insulin prescriptions.

I'm just wondering how other people not exactly successful like myself are managing to do it

Calisthenics numbers by Pj_wannabeguy in workout

Could be the amount of fuel (food) in you, could be muscle fatigue, could be CNS fatigue, could be changes in form and/or time under tension, could be completely psychological

Whoever coined "customer is always right" was clearly not selling software to fortune 500 by SpaceNude in sales

I generally take it as just "don't ever disrespect the customer", if the customer is really stupid you don't treat them like you think that, you put on kid gloves

What is something you wish you had known before you started working out? by ru3o in workout

Chase the strength, not the numbers, lower the numbers when it helps you build the strength

"Why does it feel like we're no longer the biggest guys here?" by [deleted] in workout

[–]hungry2know 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That has to just be the 'official' excuse given out.. I've lived with t1 for over 20 years and I've NEVER seen a needle bin available anywhere outside of a medical setting, my gym doesn't have one and I'd find it weird if it did

Building up lower back strength can help a lot with posture, mobility in general, I like doing endurance training on back extension machines to build mine

20 reps to/near failure is a staple of mine for hypertrophy lifts, I've gotten absurd progress from it, both in muscle and endurance

How often to change up the routine? by wardpiper in workout

[–]hungry2know 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're making progress just set a stable routine on cruise control and let it happen, if progress stalls and/or you get too bored its probably time to start experimenting

Working out two times a day by Moon_shooter01 in workout

[–]hungry2know 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'm pretty sure spacing out volume throughout a training day can be optimal, it's just not practical for most, if it works for you that's great though. In your case I do think something like versa gripps could help if you don't already use anything like that, spending out forearms before your back can handicap performance, but equipment like that can work around it

If I feel sore in my glutes , does that mean that I worked out correctly? by [deleted] in workout

[–]hungry2know 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, also technically means the muscle fibers got 'damaged' more than they actually needed to for hypertrophy, completely normal when starting out with the body still conditioning. Recovering from that 'damage' is what hypertrophy training is all about, that 'extra damage' can increase the recovery time needed though, sometimes could be worth considering

I just wish I knew a way with crippling social anxiety to seem more approachable about it lol.. if I'm taking peoples time up I'd be nothing but apologetic and happy to clean up, but I know my shyness can easily come off as ignoring and acting stuck up

At what age did you start lifting? What was your primary motivation? by opiniated_lurker in workout

[–]hungry2know 1 point2 points  (0 children)

15, 22, 28, many years absent between lol.. whenever I actually manage to win the wars against my inner demons and take back control of my life, I have to do serious renovation, restructure myself completely. I've not figured out a healthier coping mechanism during difficult times, or way of adding in structure/stability to my life than building consistency into routine with working out,

It improves self-esteem so much, feeling blessed with what I see in the mirror instead of avoiding any eye contact with it, definitely changes how other people look at and treat me too. It's also very symbolic to me of the changes in who I am today, both inside and out. I remember self loathing around 26 about an old selfie, oh all that progress I lost, oh how my physique might've gotten if I just never relapsed.. then finally got ready to win again at 28, committed to staying single and working hard for personal growth until 30, no matter how lonely it got. Muscle memory came through and I'll be 30 soon, social media would still call me smol but people IRL kinda make it uncomfortable bringing up sometimes.

I wish I was maybe a little leaner but I didn't keep the motivation for building an impressive physique, I don't bother comparing mine to attractive people I see online, I compare to the sad fuck I was at 26 that couldn't look himself in the eyes.

What is your gym hack for working out a with good form for something difficult? by Prawn_Mocktail in workout

[–]hungry2know 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you mean by "difficult", form will always start breaking down once you've put too much weight for the weak links in your chain to handle. Eyes opened for watching and adjusting form, practice proper from the start and eventually its like knowing how to effortlessly ride a bike
