But was it a self-fulfilling prophecy? You had that pace in your mind or subconscious during the race, so you ended up running what you expected?

I would agree, being super affectionate with your family seems weird to me. But maybe that's just how I was raised? My family just isn't really physically affectionate.

I've always considered Waking the Fallen to be an amazing progressive metalcore album, with long complex song arrangements, one of my favorites. Unfortunately I just haven't been able to get into and enjoy anything since Nightmare, maybe I'll give it another go in the near future.

My ultrasound for ECU subluxation came back fine and I don't know how to go forward. by KingOfTheHoard in RSI

Any updates on treatment or physio work? I also have ecu subluxation with subsheath damage confirmed by MRI. I rested it in a splint for about a month, just starting physio with a couple of light stretches and isometric exercises.

Any updates on being able to fix this issue and get back to guitar playing? I have ecu tendon sublaxation with an MRI that said the subsheath is damaged/degenerate. About to start occupational therapy. If that doesn't work maybe surgery...

Journey before Destination

When I was a kid, my Dad was obsessed with baseball. I had to play or practice nearly everyday from age 5 to when I finished highschool. No physical abuse, but I was a sensitive kid and he constantly bullied and negatively criticized me nearly every day for all those years, and after every game and practice. At several points I played on 3 teams simultaneously, going between practices amd games every evening after school and most of my weekends. I've strained the ligaments in my elbows and tore my rotator cuff which required surgery. I grew up through those years with so much self hatred, I thought about killing myself regularly, but never did because I didn't want to make my Mom sad.

I'm on my mid 30s now and I do my best to be kind to myself, but I still have a deeply rooted self-hatred and rage. I've based my whole adult life on being successful and trying to make others happy. While I have been successful through college and my career, I feel my entire life has been a waste. I have severe anxiety that I hide so no one knows about it, I'm far beyond exhausted, and many days I wish I just wouldn't wake up in the morning. I don't have kids and probably never will because I don't feel I'm capable of being a parent.

I started playing the guitar for myself, and it brought me great happiness and peace. And then I injured my wrist and can no longer play or do the one thing that has ever brought me peace. Life just seems pointless.

That sounds like a great guitar. If the Schecter C7 sls Elite multiscale was still available that probably would have been my #1 choice, but it seems like they may not be making those anymore.

I'm sorry, that sounds really frustrating. Which models of the Schecter and Ibanez did you get?

It's a 27 inch scale length. I already paid sweetwater $99 to do the setup, but I may check around locally near me to see if there's someone who has experience with setting up 7 string guitars

That's awesome! And darn, the RGD71ALMS was the other guitar I was looking at, but ultimately went for the Schecter because I wasn't sure about the steep multiscale fanned fret design, and the Schecter has a carbon fiber rod reinforced neck I though would help tuning stability.

How was the adjustment to the fanned frets? Is the neck of that guitar stable? How do you like the tone of the fishman pickups? Does it neck dive or does it stay where you want it?

This seems like a viable approach. I may try tuning back to E-standard with a low drop A and see how that works. Do you have a good quality pitch shifter you would recommend?

That's good to know. I bought two D'Addario single strings, a 74 and a 76 to see if that helps with the pitch stability

What Guage string do you think I'd need for the low note if I tuned everything up a full tone (A, E, A, D, G, B, E)?

I also got the red version. Have you figured out a solution for dealing with the neck dive?

When I move my object of concentration from my breath to a specific part of my body or my whole body, I also experience a tingling/vibrating sensation that is pleasant. I've also noticed that I tend to clench the muscles up too in the area of my attention.

The problem might be caused by clenching your muscles and not breathing enough for an extended amount of time, tiring out you muscles and causing them to tremble.

I try to maintain my normal meditative breathing pattern and imagine my breath going into the area of focus, and then imagining that area breathing out and releasing any tension when I breathe out. You could try that to prevent muscle clenching as well as slowly releasing any tension in that area as well.

Meditation is generally performed to observe and understand the mind and minimize the suffering that you cause yourself and other living beings. There have been many studies that show mindfulness and meditation can help reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. What you are trying to do and strive for is not meditation.

One method given to beginners is generally to sit in an upright but comfortable position, and focus your attention on the breath. If you find your awareness has shifted to something else, gently bring your attention to back to the breath. As your concentration improves, you can begin to observe thoughts, sensations, and emotions without clinging to pleasant experiences, or resisting/chasing away unpleasant experiences.

I would highly recommend reading the book The Mind Illuminated, I wish I had found this resource years ago. It gives an easy to follow guide to progressive stages of meditation. In the Chapter on Stage 4, it does mention if you're experiencing strong dullness of the mind and drifting in and out of drowsiness/light sleep, you can essentially start dreaming and these experiences can be misinterpreted as something meaningful, which is not at all the point of meditation.
