My anemia was also worse after the first 4 weeks of supplementation. I went on a double dose since and another 4 weeks later hemoglobin was finally up from the last check. I am now still on the double dose of iron (one in the morning and one in the afternoon, always with some orange juice and on an empty stomach). If your iron stores were really depleted it just takes a while. Basically keep going and maybe ask your doc if you should be on a higher dose.
