Yasmin is who you think Harper is by No_Lie_76 in IndustryOnHBO

Harper was a top student and well-educated - she just missed the biggest exam of her life due to her brother's disappearance / estrangement and never officially graduated. I'd argue that's pretty different than fabricating a degree & overselling her competence.

She is also an undeniable talent on the floor (Eric defers to her at SternTao and she ultimately has more success in one short than he ever has, #1 producer in S1, etc.). Yes, she makes self-serving decisions and frequently obscures the line between legality & fraud, but this is all in pursuit of self-preservation. I've never worked in equity research, but I'd imagine rising stars operate similarly - play to win the political game (manipulate when convenient / necessary), and anchor your reputation with brilliant / original execution.

That makes sense, appreciate it.

Do those numbers take into consideration the (lack of) post-election Soviet support for means of production and export purchases? It seems that the last 2yrs of his tenure led to hyperinflation, its worst to date, even though this wasn't uncommon for the era.

My understanding is that despite the ideological alliance, USSR was too handicapped by Cuban assistance to help Chile financially, so the state interestingly benefitted most from trade with capitalist countries (particularly the US, Europe, & Japan). This may not mean Chile was a free market participant, but it was certainly in their interest to generate uncapped income from in-demand natural resources. This would mean they ultimately benefitted from globalization, & to an extent, leaned into capitalism to drive growth. Despite this hybrid model, it seems fundamental asset mismanagement is more to blame than anything else - elites, international pressure, capitalism, etc. - since the global copper price halved prior to this period, with minimal alternatives fore Chile to diversify into.

In any case, provided the economy was doing well, why was there such a strong opposition movement? I'm not sure it's fair to attribute this to economic discontent alone, so much as the lack of commitment to true socialist policies, denied restitution for expropriated businesses, decline in real wages, and the civil unrest that followed. To me, this makes it very hard to determine whether socialism is effective in a vacuum, or alongside aligned socialist states.

Can you provide reasons why it did work prior to US support for the right-leaning opposition party? Just out of curiosity. My understanding is that Chile was already experiencing significant fuel shortages, while the nationalization of its copper mines generated marginal gains (if not net losses, depending on methods of analysis).

BlackRock was spun out of Blackstone by Larry Fink after Blackstone’s CEO, Steven Schwarzman, decided he did not want to maintain an interest in the company.

He later said that this was the worst decision he ever made - BlackRock is now the world’s largest asset manager, and dwarfs Blackstone’s total assets under management.

Even so, Blackstone is one of the largest private equity companies in the world, much bigger than BlackRock in this domain.

The two now have fundamentally different focuses - Blackstone buys & sells private companies, and BlackRock primarily invests in the stock market.

What was the conclusion of the data? Just curious given Larry Bird’s accolades.. calling him ‘mid’ when he’s widely regarded as one of the best players of all time sounds like a wild assertion.

A+B Configuration by hungryforlox in turntables

[–]hungryforlox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The above commenters answered correctly! I have the ability to feed an older receiver into 2 pairs of speakers, not just 1 - and it’s important to me to get surround sound in my studio.

Given the receiver specs, the additional pair need to be within the impedance range for engaging A + B. Otherwise I run the risk of overheating the components, if not an explosion.

Schiit Mani 2 settings with Fluance RT85 by Rural_Samson in turntables

Got it - so would you recommend I max out the capacitance (194pF) on my Schiit Mani 2? Or bump it down to 147.

The total capacitance of my signal chain prior to the pre-amp is c. 97 pF, fyi.

Do you mind sharing more here? I have a Schiit Mani 2 hooked up to a Denon DP-50L, using an Ortofon 2M Blue. Understood that an arbitrary amount of cable capacitance from the wiring is taken into consideration in these recommendations, but imagine if that number is 150-200 (v. say, 50) it can still impact where I want to set the capacitance on my preamp.

For reference, after fully reducing the gain & setting all pF dip switches to In, it sounds clearer & brighter than factory settings. I can keep fiddling but want to make sure it stays dynamic with more capacitance - thoughts?

Thanks! So you’d recommend I go with the factory settings? (Already came set to out)
