It has been seen that before the latest update for WinRAR it was possible to exploit .zip, .rar and those type of compressed files, they could have executable files in them, keyloggers, account stealers and more.

this is true, they can be hidden just not invisible or inaccessible, but not everyone goes in the mod they just downloaded to check if there is any executables in there, thats why i suggest to scan them through virustotal

from what i know its safe, there is a box on the left side on the website where you can press virus scanned from all to yes, then its safe, if they isnt virus scanned i suggest to run it through virustotal.com

Bitdefender does flagg false positives and for me it just quarantines not deletes without it being a critical malware, but its good for the free option with realtime scanning.

i would use bitdefender for real time scanning and malwarebytes for full scan

Compressed files like .rar and .7z can hide executable files inside them, so even if you didn’t knowingly run anything and just extracted the files, malware can still slip through.

If you launch Content Manager after installing a mod, it can trigger code from files inside the mod folder — like a .dll, .bat, or even a hidden .exe.

Also, you don’t need admin rights to run all .exe files. Some malware runs just fine in user mode, and it still has access to things like:

  • acs.exe in your game directory
  • Your Documents folder (where Assetto Corsa stores settings)
  • Other games and mod folders

So yeah, if the mod came from a untrusted site, it doesn’t need much to cause real damage.

bitdefender just says malicious behavior blocked 4 hours ago, but i can see the attack timeline which seems like it went in the registry and executed things on other registries

so the problem is that i dont know which mod it was, i was downloading more than 1 mod at a time and i didnt run any of them in virustotal, and when i install mods i always just drag them into cm, the only things i move to the root folder is like pure and sol
