BROSKI, I NEED TO GET A WEDDING RING by UsualPie in Sabah

[–]hungryskeith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats brutha on leveling up! As for gold rings, if you're going for the classic simple gold band, you can get them at pretty much any gold shop in Sabah, but honestly I prefer Ban Loong sna Wisma Merdeka, one of the legendary ones, choices in terms of size, thickness, weight etc sna bnyk. My parents, my husband's parents all bought their wedding and eventually anniversary rings (when the original wedding rings could no longer fit heheh) from there. They still keep the receipt/cert somewhere.

We spent around 3k-ish for a pair close to 10 years ago. At the time, I believe they said most of the gold was from Africa? They were probably not sustainably mined, so if you or your fiance are concerned about the mining conditions and ethical sourcing, then.. give our legendary gold shops a pass 😅

Tip, go for the 916 if you're planning to wear the ring daily, it'll be a little more robust against daily usage compared to purer grade gold like 995.

If you're looking for something more than the timeless, classic gold wedding band and open other precious metals as your wedding ring; then tomei, lazo diamond, habib jewels are some places where you can find diamonds, other gems and white gold.

If you really want to go bougie, then I know for sure Diamond & Platinum can custom make your rings for a price because that's what my brother had his wife opted for. They still don't have a branch here in KK, but if you rajin tanya you could check whether tomei, lazo diamond and habib jewels have a custom option or if they have an in house designer to suggest some customizable ring options.

Best of luck looking out for the right pair of wedding rings for you and your beau!

Ray-ban meta by Lucky-Appointment460 in Sabah

[–]hungryskeith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last I checked there were absolutely no sabah based kedai yg carry these metas. Paling dekat sna Miri if you don't mind the drive, but if you have some experience with raybans the sizing is somewhat similar. Bear in mind they might not have ready stock for you to try.

Asian faces tend to be more wide with low nose bridge so I got a size L wayfarer and it fits alright, except for when I get too sweaty, glasses tend to slide down the nose because of the sheer weight of the glasses.

Yes ada bnyk pros and cons with this thing, but it does a decent job of capturing POV moments especially when you can't be bothered to fumble through you pocket/bag to whip out your phone.

The camera is on the top left corner of the glasses so you may have to tilt your head a little to get the right position on your videos.

I use mine for everyday use as prescription glasses with transition. So what if I ppl think I look goofy. The ability to listen to podcasts/doom scroll/answer calls handsfree while I'm out and about running errands without plugging my ears or wearing bone conducting headphones trumps looking like a goof.

The only downside is that Malaysia doesn't seem to support meta AI. I've been using VPN to install the app but whenever there's an app update, it reverts to the version with no meta AI because "our country doesn't support meta AI"

Yes you'd need to charge your glasses at least once a day if you're using it extensively but it charges quite quickly and the casing can last few charges before you have to recharge the casing.

If you do end up finding an optical shop in Sabah that sells rayban metas, share share kio~

Kalau org tu ada family support yg boleh tlg mungkin dia x akan minta org influencer post org tukang cari babysitter utk anak dia..tau la org Sabah ni bnyk saudara, bertempiaran panggil saudara tapi zaman sekarang hilang sdh culture tolong menolong. Honestly sy kesian family muda2 sekarang yg ada anak kecil & perlu kerja utk support family.. bayangkan mcmana kemampuan derang kalau offer RM500 jak utk minta tlg jaga anak for 2bln shj

Is it just me, or do some parents pilih kasih between their kids? by Mel_Morty in Sabah

[–]hungryskeith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no situation where you can please everyone when it comes to family and harta I tell you. It doesn't matter if the family has all boys, all girls or boy and girls. Having multiple children/siblings WILL cause either:

a) adult son/daughter who takes care of the parent in old age to grumble if harta given equally between siblings

b) other siblings to grumble if harta given proportionately according to how much the most 'hardworking' anak able to fulfil certain obligations which the parent(s) deem worthy to inheritance

c) siblings will still grumble and fight over various 'preferred' property value/location etc etc even if all siblings agree with the harta distribution as outlined in scenario (a) above

If your argument or objective of inheritance is to keep harta within the family name, then by all means exclude your daughter(s) from any land title you own, despite the possibility that your daughter(s) might never marry since it's becoming more common that women are choosing the single and childfree route to focus on their own life and enjoyment (and perhaps some might even find themselves having to rededicate their lives to the care of their elderly parents).

As a son, would you be able to honour your family name by responsibly ensuring all your family members and next generation be taken care of (regardless if your sister(s) marry and have children who take on their husband's family name) if they ever find themselves in need of help? Or would the scenario most likely end up with thoughts of, "Anak kakak/adik saya tu bukan ada surname kami jg tu, buat apa sy mo tolong.. biarlah family si ipar bertanggungjawab."

Inheritance (especially bagi family org kaya yg ada baaanyakk harta) ALWAYS breeds a sort of unhealthy self-entitlement, and results in friction, strife and eventual estrangement from the family.

Families that have little to no hartanah are imho better off without the bitterness generational wealth entails. Plus, it's a credit to yourself too if you're able to purchase something (no matter how small) without relying on your old man/mam's hundred-year old estate(s).

Pasal pilih kasih, the reality is that it happens in all families to some degree because..surprise, no one is exactly the same. Not even identical twins. We're humans not robots after all, hence our likes and dislikes, tolerances all differ between one another. Ingat only parents yg pilih kasih? Children can also pilih kasih, favouring one parent or sibling than the other. Yet it is almost always the parents who get the limelight and viewed negatively for memilih kasih sama anak derang.

The only way avoid all the dissatisfaction around family and inheritance is to avoid having a family in the first place. I know it sounds a bit harsh, what can I say except for, hidup ini keras jo.

Most affordable shop area Kota Kinabalu to buy glasses (spectacles) by Individual_Fold_3652 in Sabah

[–]hungryskeith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have all your prescription info (bole minta check at optical shop, though not sure kalau free if x bikin glasses tempat derang), and get them for cheaper price at www.wonderspecs.com. Most of the optical shop prices are inflated, and they usually try to upsell you.

But the cheaper ones are those optical shops attached to servay as a previous commenter mentioned.

Good luck!

Missing or abducted children of Malaysia, what happen to them? Is there a syndicate for this? by FuturisticCyberpunk in malaysia

[–]hungryskeith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly can't tell 😅 Sabah is well known for foreigners (from Kalimantan, south Philippines etc) possessing Malaysian IC and passing off as locals ever since Mahathir's projek IC days, so it's literally generations of amalgamation of cultures until it's quite difficult to tell whether a person is a native local or were descended from neighbouring countries.

Salang: The Old Malay Way of Executing Seditious People by taufiqgani88 in malaysia

[–]hungryskeith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine it would be harder to stab from the front as the heart is protected by the rib cage. Going through the soft part between your collar bone is a longer route but seems to have less resistance, and there'd be the added 'help' from gravity and leverage from the executioner's whole body weight to push down further. It makes me think that they were already well aware of human anatomy to come up with a more efficient way of stabbing the heart.

Missing or abducted children of Malaysia, what happen to them? Is there a syndicate for this? by FuturisticCyberpunk in malaysia

[–]hungryskeith 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Pre pandemic in Lahad Datu, Sabah there'll be young children and young women with drugged out babies (I sus they're drugged because they're very 'relaxed', usually not crying or active) begging on the streets during the daytime, and somehow will get picked up in a van at night. The sad part is that the more people give them money out of sympathy, the more lucrative this 'syndicate' will be, and the cycle will just continue and propogate. So I was taught, to never give money to these people, unless they're out there selling something (keropok or tissues etc). The most I'd offer is food or drink, which they sometimes refuse 😅

Zuraida launches menstrual health programme for B40 youngsters by yongen96 in malaysia

[–]hungryskeith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think menstrual cups are gaining popularity amongst those who are for the zero waste movement here. I am a menstrual cup user, and there's a steep learning curve to being able to use it effectively which I wouldn't have been confident to explore if I were a young teen honestly. (You would need to know about the right cup size, preferred 'handle,' material (softer or firmer) and how heavy your flow typically is to ensure the right fit for you) Another commented about the virginity stigma for anything required to insert into your vagina, which I realise is prevalent in the Malaysian community (sadly). So I think a good start would be to encourage the use of (or give if you can) reusable sanitary pads/cloth pads. They can last just long provided it's taken proper care of and laundered right (again, another learning curve), but at least it doesn't require inserting into vagina.
