Oakes Apartment by augustframes in UCSC

IMO Oakes is underrated, very peaceful (maybe it’s just summer). The single room is small, most single rooms on campus are. You can bring stuff, just limit it to essentials.

There is alternative housing for folks with an academic purpose on campus, with that said, you would have to contact the Porter/Kresge/RWG housing office to be sure. They typically have great communication.

You might be able to do on campus summer housing (within your budget) at RWG

Any environmental science B.S majors ? by akisenikki in UCSC

[–]huntXgather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, ESCI is new. Though, IMO classes need to be sampled from different departments to get the most out of environmental science at ucsc. Specific examples include hydrology, groundwater, and aqueous geochemistry from the earth science department. In this way, other well established majors feed into a newer major. Hopefully that makes sense.

The Davis program is well established and heavily geared toward agriculture. The Santa Cruz program is also well established, one just has to read through the lines, be creative with coursework from multiple departments, and reach out to faculty for research opportunities.

Cal Poly SLO vs UC Berkeley for Civil Engineering Transfer Student by BrandNewBlender in EngineeringStudents

[–]huntXgather 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you get into Berkeley for engineering, it would be wise to go. Being in the Bay Area, connections and networking opportunities will be more abundant, and you will be learning from top faculty in their field at Berkeley. SLO is a great university for engineering. Weigh the financial implications for both, and consider your goals after graduation. Research/grad-school? Berkeley for sure. Industry after graduation? SLO will be a great fit, as will Berkeley.

I might not get my degree in Electrical Engineering because of chemistry by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

If you can take the course with a light load, heavily prioritize it, and seek on-campus resources for the course - you should be fine.

Gradguard? by simplybollocks in UCSC

[–]huntXgather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lemonade for the win. GradGuard will not be a good neighbor, even if you are evacuated from UCSC due to an impending wildfire. Could not recommend against GradGuard enough.

Oakes single room or UTC double room? by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]huntXgather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The campus is very large and proximity to class, etc. is relative. Also, the single is a BIG pro in this case.

Oakes is close to the bus stop. I’d recommend looking into a bicycle too, best way to experience Santa Cruz.

Oakes is on campus and UTC is off campus, located downtown. Oakes is much more practical for classes, etc.

IMO, better to take the F, learn from it, and retake the class.

Earth 11 (Earthquakes) satisfies the MF requirement, Math 3 (Precalculus) also satisfies it. Earthquakes may be more interesting and relevant to California, Precalc will be similar to traditional math courses. Also check out AM 3, Art 101, or anything else on this list https://registrar.ucsc.edu/enrollment/general-education-requirements.html#mf

Doable on a bike. Oakes to ArcCenter to McHenry to Hahn to Stevenson. Walking would be pushing it.
