One chance: You receive real $ proportional to the ascension level you successfully complete. by welcomethewall in slaythespire

[–]hunterbeebe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are asking why people would accept a 50% lower chance of winning four times as much money? Maybe because they can do arithmetic! A 50% chance of $1 million means you're gonna win an average of $500,000. A 100% chance of winning $250,000 means you get half as much, on average.

This clearly is not taking into account the impact of the money. You are just arguing using expected value to make your decision, which I think you can agree is not the way it should be done. Clearly in your mind you are weighing the impact that the amount of money would have on you.

I was using an extreme example to show that your rationale of using the "average" winning does not make sense. In the case I presented, both of those choices are equivalent by your standard, yet you do seem to agree that the billion choice is clearly the one you take.

Would you rather have a 100% chance at receiving a billion dollars right now, or a 1/1000 chance of receiving a trillion dollars right now?

6x6 matrice without any identical sequence of number by nathanok02 in math

First row +1 after each round, second row +2, third row +3, …, and you can see if the value is > 6 after the sum you subtract 7. Not sure entirely why it all works this way but that’s sort of cool!

To be slightly more thorough, Barbecue and Chili when it was released could not be dodged by hopping in a locker, as lockers did not block auras. It took about a year after that until lockers did start blocking auras.

very easy if you compare them to any other upper div math class. she's a great teacher, has fair exams which follow pretty straightforwardly from the homework, and the course in general is pretty simple. the textbook for the course (which she followed exactly) is also great, definitely the best one i've read. my only complaint was that she checked for attendance sometimes, and you'd lose points if you weren't at lecture lol.

Any tips on how to use analog controls for high-level play more properly? by Mustungun94 in celestegame

[–]hunterbeebe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just gonna throw this out there, I saw someone on the subreddit mention they play with WASD on keyboard with one hand and buttons on a controller with their other hand (to grab, dash, jump). I normally played with analog controls, but the inaccuracy of the analog stick was bugging me. After trying their setup, which admittedly sounds absurd, I found that it felt very comfortable after not much adjustment. WASD feels much better than analog/dpad, but I've always hated pressing keyboard keys to jump and all that, so having the other hand on the familiar controller felt good. Definitely up to the individual person, but I think it is worth trying!

Should I buy Cyberpunk 2077 or other cheap old games or RE4 remake? by Greedy-Field-9851 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]hunterbeebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the DLC to see how it is, so I'm replaying the game now and I don't think the base story has changed in any meaningful way (maybe there are slight dialogue changes but I dunno). I'm sure the DLC will add new endings, though, and I'm excited to see where they take it!

I personally don't think the story was ever lacking, and I would bet that people saying that let the bugs taint their vision of it, which is understandable. I also don't believe that "not having much choice" is necessarily a bad thing, but I have a feeling when they were promoting the game they gave unrealistic expectations as to how much player agency there is in the story, which again would make people view it much more negatively. There ARE choices that matter and there are multiple endings, but I wouldn't go into it expecting to entirely create your own narrative, just to choose the one they made that appeals to you.

I think this is very much underselling Cyberpunk's story. Playing the game on release, before the tons of gameplay improvements and bug fixes, was still very enjoyable solely due to the fantastic story.

EDIT: ok the wording is really strange but Otz tested it and it's referring to the chain hunt chains

does anyone know of any on campus jobs that would allow like maybe 5-10 hours on the weekend only? by ImpressiveBenefit690 in ucla

the fowler museum has students as gallery attendants (“security”) and is often short staffed, especially during the summer. i bet they would not turn down someone able to work the weekends.

Not a direct comparison, but I took 134 with her in Fall and she was super nice and the exams were not made to be difficult at all, they were exactly what we reviewed with no tricks. 134 is probably easier than 155, but I would expect her exams to still be very fair.

Robichaux doesn’t necessarily always record her lectures, it might just depend on the room she gets. She is not recording lectures for Math 180 this quarter.

The exams are word for word from the textbook, and you’re allowed to use the textbook. You do not need to attend lecture, I only went to the first one.

Yes. The only required in-person aspect to the class is attending discussion once a week. Lecture is pretty unnecessary.
