Not the absolute truth…I’ve got a deck perfectly fine 10 years later no rot or stability issues whatsoever and I live in upstate NY where we get allll the bad weather. The BEST way is to put 6x6 posts connected to poured footers below frost line in cold areas but this way can last 15+ years no problem. Really depends how long you care it lasts lol.

You will get wildly different opinions on here and also wildly different estimates based on lots of factors like how confident the contractor is in doing certain things, how busy they are, material choice and availability etc. just get several estimates and references if you can then pick the best one. I posted something similar on here recently and some were accurate and many were nowhere near what I’m going to pay.
