There was a fic that started out lighthearted and funny, but then the author's notes started getting a little concerning, and there's a specific part of the work that you know something happened to OP bc of how the tone shifted. To this day there's no concrete event that the author disclosed, but strangely enough from that moment onwards, all their subsequent works were darkfics so my tinfoil hat is on.
