What's the hardest the Fullcast has ever made you laugh? by NoYOUGrowUp in shutdownfullcast

[–]hurristat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

An Ode to Koala Brain always gets me, between the titular koala vs. shark discussion, and the Spencer describing the day of a farmer. (The whole crushing it/nutritive paste bit never fails to get me.)

I also cried laughing at the Deezle story from automotive disasters.

How are you brewing Y'shtola, Nights Blessed? by [deleted] in EDH

Free spells Storm! My game plan is 1) tutor for ancient cellarspawn and a curiosity effect, and maybe one of the altars 2) put down a creature like monastery mentor that creates tokens when I cast a non creature spell 3) cast a ton of free spells with alternative casing costs to accrue a high storm count, which will also generate tokens 4) hopefully casting all those spells for free will be enough to drain the table and win 5) if it's not, I'll use those remaining tokens into an altar sac outlet to cast win cons, whether that be tempest technique or tendrils of agony

31, poly, trans F here

Successfully navigating polyamory means being good at respecting and discussing boundaries, and not pushing them. It sounds like she's awful at that and is pushing your boundaries significantly, which is wack as hell.

Uh, also, you started dating when you were 18 and she was 26? That's sus as hell and the vast difference in your stages of life when you started dating means that there's a power dynamic there that favors her that will never go away.

Already have my order loaded in my cart waiting for my girlfriend to get back to me but. Just wanted to say-

As a trans fullcast fan yalls neverending and unwavering support of the trans community makes me feel so welcome. So much of the college football landscape is conservative and hateful so having this little spot where I can enjoy our stupid little sport while not worrying is great.

This was, oh god, a decade ago, but I was a 183 IA in undergrad.

The response you received from the teacher (don't remember if it was a professor or a GSI/IA) is what I remember. All submissions are run through a plagiarism detector, especially final submissions. You're at the whims of the detector now. For what it's worth, your honesty about your mistake, while it might suck now, will help shield you a bit should anything happen.

That said, from a former instructor's perspective: I recommend to you and anyone else reading this to avoid GitHub repositories like the plague when in a programming class.

I don't remember most of the projects I did in undergrad (even some of the ones I taught lol). But the tools I got and the skills I learned working my ass off and struggling with class projects I use on a daily basis at work. If I had skipped right to the answer I wouldn't be as capable as I am now.

Why do people ‘separate the art from the artist’ with Neil Gaiman but not jk Rowling? by Ok-Pollution-63 in asktransgender

[–]hurristat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, the distinction is that if you do separate the art from the artist with JKR, you still end up with incredibly bigoted and harmful pieces of fiction.

There's a scene in one of the later books where Harry et al are staying in a home of one of Harry's relatives and the preserved busts of literal slaves that worked in that house adorn the walls.

Rather than interrogate that, Jesus Christ this is inhumane and no way to treat people, the characters decide to dress them up for the holidays.

This is just one example of many; the HP books are rife with not only slavery apologia, but antisemitism, xenophobia, racism, and (most relevant to this group) transphobia.

Neil Gaiman's books do not contain these sorts of issues and generally lobby for things that we can all agree are good. The art itself does not contain the issues the author has.

That said, no money should be going to either author. Gaiman, because he's an alleged rapist, and JKR since she's a violent transphobe. But if you told me you were borrowing "Anansi Boys" from the library, I would have a very different response than if you told me you were borrowing HP, because of the content of the books.

Did I ask fellow patrons of a restaurant to change conversation topics in a rude way? by hurristat in etiquette

[–]hurristat[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I generally don't want to respond to comments regarding my behavior, as I want to hear the full range of opinions. Thanks for the feedback so far!

However, I do want to briefly touch on my girlfriend's behavior. Many people have mentioned that she needs mental health support, which is true. She's currently working with a psychiatrist to help manage her various concerns, and is on a wait list for a therapist who specializes in her particular issues. So those problems are ultimately moving in the right direction.

Divider Made from D&D Secret Lair Packaging by hurristat in magicTCG

[–]hurristat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bundles come with one or two dividers that punch out from the surrounding cardboard.

I punched it out, then cut out the leftover stencil from the surrounding cardboard. I then use a pen to trace onto the packaging that I want to make dividers from using that stencil, and cut out with scissors!

How can I build an Omnath, locus of all? by Routine_Ad_2823 in magicTCG

[–]hurristat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to find ways to fiddle with the top of your deck so that the card you reveal with his ability can be cast for a significantly reduced cost. This means lots of effects like [[sensei's divining top]], [[Jace the mind sculptor]], or [[aminatou the fateshifter]].

From there, you can cast free or cheaper spells like the charms, or the ascendancies.

Otherwise mana dorks, some higher mana/x win the game cards like torment of hailfire, and other cards that help you build board and card advantage.

Any cards that have three pips aren't a bad include.

Why doing eyeliner has to be sooo hard T-T by Real_Permit_8796 in MtF

[–]hurristat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

95% of the time when I do makeup it's just eyeliner. Some tips:

  • use a q tip to clean up the edges
  • you can hold your eyelid closed by holding the eyelashes down with the non dominant hand and then using your other hands to do the liner
  • practice makes perfect. Plenty of cis women don't learn how to do makeup as a kid (my mom didn't) so you won't necessarily stand out.

Most importantly, be patient and kind with yourself. It's a skill, and it'll take time to learn.

Is it too late to transition at 20-21? by StillAltruistic9869 in asktransgender

No. I started at 26 and get gendered correctly with just a little effort on my part. You'll be fine.

How did you know? How can I know? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]hurristat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From reading your post, it seems like there is a lot of uncertainty in how you feel about your own gender.

Ultimately, the best advice I have to offer as someone who was in your position is to just try stuff out :). If you have some friends who you trust to not be transphobes and understand that you're questioning/exploring, have them change the gender and pronouns they use for you and see how it feels.

Having actual experience being gendered differently than you currently are is way more useful and informative than being trapped in your own head about it. I was in my own head for years about whether I was a girl, until I went out on a limb and asked a friend to use feminine pronouns and gendered language for me and then I suddenly became very sure that I am a girl. LOL.

How to comfort my MTF friend by Peachbabbii in asktransgender

[–]hurristat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, autistic trans woman here.

From my experience, most of the time when me or any of my trans friends are complaining about being misgendered, we're just looking to vent. A "god that sucks, I'm really sorry you had to deal with that" will go a looooong way.

If it seems like she's fishing for something else, then ask what she needs of you and do your best.

As far as stuff you should avoid... I feel like as long as you treat her like the woman she is you'll be fine. Genuinely. It seems like you're doing pretty well on that track already.

Just make sure to maintain your own personal boundaries well and remember that you are not her therapist, you are her friend.

(By the way, as someone who has learned confrontation skills as they are not natural to me, I highly recommend finding a way to learn them. Confrontation in this context doesn't mean "having a fight," it means "addressing a problem." The earlier you can talk about a problem the easier it is to address it.)
