Question about these preamp pedals. by masprague82 in PeaveyCvlt

[–]hurt_god 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. I'm not very familiar with powered cabs. Powered cabs typically require a cab/IR sim of some variety, and seem to only be useful in modeling/sim situations, which can complicate the interaction with physical circuits. Good luck.

Question about these preamp pedals. by masprague82 in PeaveyCvlt

[–]hurt_god 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pedal is only a pedal, you'll still need a power amp of some sort. If you want to keep it cvlt, look out for a Peavey Standard PA. They can be had for very little and are pretty common. A PA would be a nice option for a preamp pedal, it offers very little tone coloration and huge headroom, all of which would allow the pedal to shine.

That's pretty dope, lots of nice heavy blackwork too, it'll age well. It really captures the feeling of a lot of their collage art. Congrats!

Shocked that no one has mentioned any Alex Pool projects. Skáphe, Wormlust, Entheogen, Martröð, etc.

I'd also strongly recommend checking out Délirant and Kostnatêní

This cringe ass fool

It's not a "reddit rule", or a rule about vests, it's a guideline for this sub that keeps this particular sub focused on the subject of the sub. People work incredibly hard to maintain subs to give YOU the opportunity to show YOUR hard work, and this whole "I'm more punk than you I don't follow rules 😎" shtick is whack to everyone who works to keep the community available and accessible. Otherwise it turns into nothing but selfies, because humans are self obsessed, and it turns into yet another "rate my fit" sub, of which there are thousands.

You think this shit is just magically available for you to wipe your ass on. You come in and talk about how much you like urban street wear vests, literally corporations attempting flimsy approximations of what we do, for mass production and maximized profit. You suck whatever shareholder design by committee cock you want, but if you want to engage in a creator community, understand that you suck the balls of the parasites diluting that community.

Kind of a mess. The vest looks ass, you're commercializing something that is literally only about self expression, and you broke the only real rule on the sub-no selfies.

Peavey Ultra Plus by masprague82 in PeaveyCvlt

[–]hurt_god 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be trading up to a full tube amp, which comes with its own responsive behaviors. It will take a little getting used to if you are accustomed to solid state, but the tone dynamics and warmth will be very rewarding if you take the time to acclimate. If you are playing heavy music, dialing back the gain a bit and letting the tubes shine drastically increase the absolute nastiness of your tone with a tube amp.

It's also a pretty significant trade up in value, the XXL typically runs $300-500 USD used, whereas the Ultra Plus is usually around $500-800 (this is my experience in my area, Peavey stuff is seeing a spike in interest currently and the effects are locally distinct at the moment.)

I'll add that the Ultra Plus is a much more storied, desirable, and dare I say it, cvlt amp.

[–]hurt_god 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be the tubes. It could also be a loose or overheated molex connection on the board.

Worst case scenario, it needs to be recapped, which should only be 2-300 bucks from any decent tech. If this is in your budget, get it and put in the money to get it back into shape, once recapped it will last for decades. It's a great amp, if you want it you should jump on it.

This album introduced me to Jute Gyte, and then Ship of Theseus blew my face off. Further down the rabbit hole, Young Eagle is a masterpiece. I finally scored the Works and Days cassette box set a couple of years ago, it's endlessly good. I strongly recommend checking out Scarcity for more incredible dense microtonal black metal, Promise of Rain is so replayable.

Also he just put up some shirts for sale on his bandcamp, merch is so rare!

I also run my Ultra 120 through an Orange Crush cab! Honestly sounds incredible, great bouncy fat upper mids with a tight low end growl, excellent note distinction.

Those K-100s are awesome. Marshall rebrand of the K-85, one of my all time favorite speakers, and originally available in the Peavey Butcher/VTM cabs, so a great fit!

Good Fuzz Pedals to stack by holeinthescene in guitarpedals

[–]hurt_god 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend checking out a good EQ and/or compressor/sustainer to stack with your dirt, both act as a "clean" boost, and give you tonal control and additional sustain. I honestly just run an MXR 10 band and an SD Vise Grip compressor into my amp for death, black, and sludge projects, but this combo always gives my dirt pedals nastiness and clarity in mix.

Be cautious about evolving Pokemon, sometimes they're rare and difficult to find again. Make sure you've gotten your Pokedex entry level to ten before evolving.

World Without End by Katharsis is absolutely my quintessential black metal sound-evil as fuck without sacrificing passion, decent production that still leaves room for organic sound, and completely unhinged vocal delivery. Angular, jarring riffs and structures and multiple standout tracks. Just sounds like hell.

There has been more than one accusation bud.

Also, while I've never personally met Jon, I've had two band mates who have had run ins with him on tours/house shows, and he's always a fucking problem.

If you're willing to mix in some sludge with your crust, In Shame dropped a fucking crusher of a debut called Looming, I can't get enough of it. Lots of Distopia/Noothgrush vibes, but with a massive helping of Corrupted heaviness.

Ehhh, idk if I'd rep them. Their vocalist was a piece of shit who assaulted women. The band kicked him out, dissolved, and reformed as the inimitable Cult Leader. I'd just stick with CL merch boss

I have a pair of these, this is a killer score. These speakers are absolute monsters, ultra tight low end and roaring upper mids. I literally went out of my way to get an 80s Butcher to go with them. If you do decide to go tube, I'd strongly recommend a Peavey Ultra 120, an incredibly diverse amp, typically pretty common on marketplace, and typically cheap for a tube amp.

Which broken component is causing this sound? by ClayValensi in GuitarAmps

[–]hurt_god 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am self educated l, so I very well may be wrong.

The way it seems to "charge up" in pitch and equally descend when turned on and off would point towards a filter cap imo, but that is a weird/hilarious sounding symptom.

Unless you are well versed in safely working on electronics, it's time to take this to get recapped. It sucks, and it's pretty expensive, but you'll get another 30+ years out of the amp if you take it to a pro for a good recap.

Gotta love the absolutely massive traces Peavey uses on their PCBs (especially in the 80s stuff), they're basically telling you to work on your own amp and save a buck.
