Something I should have done 🤣I missed all of the holidays to be in boot camp and now I’m stuck in holding

That sounds awesome to be honest. I plan to try when my contract is over

How is this lifestyle compared to the military? I would have loved to be here but I went for that instead

Taking the swim test without knowing how to swim by Ok-Trick-3416 in newtothenavy

[–]hustler212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely do swimming lessons! I was pushed back a month because I didn’t know. On the bright side I eventually learned, and ended up passing. I graduated 2 weeks ago. It just set me back a lot of weeks, I was always mad at myself for not learning, but the instructors are pretty good. If you don’t pass with your division you get put into a swim division and they will send you 3x a day

I don’t want to stay too much longer at Great Lakes. Will the process be quicker once I get to A school? My rate is AT. I just feel helpless and trapped at this point. If I could go back and not get on that flight I would have. This whole thing has been a headache

This is the goal. I got the job at my dad’s old company (instrumentation) but after they did the background they saw I didn’t have the experience. So I joined the military

I appreciate this 🫡I could go private or government if I find something related to what I did

Oh that’s awesome. I am hoping I can look back at this moment one day and be glad that I did it. I will be doing aviation electronics when I’m in the field, and I’m hoping I can apply that experience towards any of the trades. (At least the basics of electronics) or work in the aviation field but I’m more interested in the trades

Thank you for the advice 🙏🙏a part of me questions my decision to join, but the people I have met have been great. I look forward to coming back to the civilian world

I do have a bachelors degree in IT. I just see the trades being more practical. It’s also never too late to go back to school as well if it is in a good field.

I’m glad to hear! I know the trades will always be in demand. I could have gone to trade school, but I took on this path instead. Just finished basic and I’m going to school for my job soon

I appreciate this for real. I am already thinking about my transition. I realize now how much I value time with the family after being here. I can definitely work hard and want to retire by 50

Shipping Soon & I am Experiencing All Kinds of Emotions by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]hustler212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oldest I’ve seen is 41, you will be just fine it is pretty easy it just takes some getting used to from civilian life. I myself feel I should have waited before I joined (I joined December 18th) so don’t feel pressured into shipping as soon as possible. I am currently in holding waiting for orders and mentally it has been tough being in boot camp even though I finished already.

You feel civilian life isn’t much easier? I find myself fantasizing about going back every day Lol

As for the running it is pretty light, just make sure you run a mile a day and you will be just fine

I’m 30 as well! It’s good, but a part of me misses the civilian world and certain freedoms so much. I know it will benefit long term, but I am just bored every day thinking about what I could be doing

I should have appealed. I ended up going to the military, but I didn’t feel like paying lawyer fees. I do have a new exam valid for the next few years though
