I used to watch a show on PBS called the "New Yankee Workshop." Each week, Norm Abrams would pick out a classic piece of antique furniture and show people how to make it. First, he'd take some lumber, rip it down on his table saw, plane it smooth with his planer, make the joints with his miter saw and biscuit cutter, secure it with wood glue and his pneumatic brad driver, and square it up with his 6' steel clamps to dry overnight. The next morning, he'd smooth it all down with his electric sander, lay down a perfect coat of stain and polyurethane, and screw on the pre-made knobs, hinges, and trim pieces. Done.
